    I think you are right about second hand engines being not a safe option i will get price on short block and take it from there, what would you recommend to have done with heads?

    I think you are right about second hand engines being not a safe option i will get price on short block and take it from there, what would you recommend to have done with heads?
    I would have them serviced by a head servicing place. They should reseat valves, check valve heights etc and skim. Rover V8 heads rarely crack and the valve guides last a long time. If no guides or inserts are necessary, the cost should be about $400. They should check for hardness also.
