    front door lock issue

    hi everyone

I'm hoping to shed some light on a door lock problem, My front right hand side door lock has just started giving me head aches, all the doors lock/unlock when I use the central locking except the drivers door.

I cant open it manually with the key either so I have to enter from the passenger side and then exit from the passenger side, as I cant open it from the inside either.

I have repaired the passenger side window mechanism before because the bracket had failed but not the motor, I was hoping it might be a small problem like a code or spring etc.

Any advice much appreciated, I,m currently travelled around Oz and have been in Broome for the last few weeks as my front drive shaft had a blow out, so this just adds to the aggravation.

Have had the same problem, had to replace the lift mechanism - isn't a hard job if you have done a window mechanism before. The locking unit is a single sealed unit. I got mine from Rimmers in the UK.

I have repaired the window mechanism on the passenger side, luckily the motor still worked, but I had access to the open door .

This time on the driver side I have no access to behind the door trim as its locked from the inside and out side.

I have full access from all the other doors, key fob works for all other doors, I've tried every thing, the motor sounds like its working just like te others, all the linkages seem to be there and OK from my small view from the top of the door trim - I can pry it off a bit, the only place I cant see is under neath the locking unit, could there be a broken piece there?

I'm basically locked out of the driver side, I getting worried there is no fix for this one, I really hope some one has some help here.

    thanks

You are in a predicament , the only way to replace the door latch is to open the door, and lift the window frame right up. I have had one occasion where I was able to keep locking and unlocking the door using the dash mounted switch until it opened, but it took almost forever. You may just be lucky there

You can remove the door trim with the door shut; it makes it easier if you remove the seat first. If the door won't open with the key or by pulling on the inside lever, then something may have come adrift and its not the actual locking mechanism. Bugger

I had a similar issue in my Discovery 1. I was able to remove the door trim without opening the door. Took a bit of muscle, and broke quite a few of the retaining clips, but it came off.

Not sure if this applies to D2.

    Thanks guys

I'm heading north to cape leveque for a few days so wont attempt to destroy anything just yet, not sure if I even will need a new locking unit but I'll order one and keep it as a spare anyway.

The car has done great towing our van half way around Oz so far, but its the little annoyances and bits that fail that drive me nuts whilst on the road.

I guess all cars have there faults and issues, mine are just hitting me all at once.

    Thanks for the help everyone.

Youve got a faulty door lock. Ive replaced 5 now in my D2. Cant remember what i paid 3 years ago, but its worth it just to not have to go through that passenger side issue.

My wifes got a series 3 and i have the same thing with the drivers door. Never mind. Have fun up Nth

Howy, is there much dust in the drivers door? If yes, the lock mechanism is probably full of it as well. And if you have added CRC or WD40 , the problem will be worse.

Tee up a door lock assy from, say, Rovaparts in Perth, and get it posted to the post office in Broome. Overnight on Express Post! In the meantime, manipulate the door open by removing the door card from inside, suss out the mechanism. Check that the inside cable has not broken out the plastic clip - I found that a Commodore clip from a wreck will fit well enough, and you'll find plenty of "fodder" at Blue Haze.

Make sure the window is up before you start to dismantle the lock.

You may find that blowing out the mech will give you a reprieve, but our experience is that the lock wears and it "cocks" the moving parts and jams them in whatever position they feel inclined to be, and no amount of bad language will move them!

How was Cape Road? Catch some fish? Can hardly wait till next year and get up there again, with #3 son and family back in Broome from F Xing.

    Hope this helps,

    Hi Pete

Just got back from cape today, it was fantastic! we stayed at middle lagoon for 4 days then 1 night at Quongdong point. Cape Leveque was quite spectacular, not a lot of fishing but a fair bit of snorkeling also went out to one arm point to check out the hatchery there, have four kids also they loved it.

Its a shame to see whats going to happen to James price point, but sadly I think the gas project is a done deal.

As for the door, I'm still at a bit of a loss as to how I'm going to open it, I have been able to pry the door card off from the top about halfway down allowing me access to the lock mech, but everything seems fine.

I will attempt tomorrow again, I have tried disconnecting the battery leads,as well as the elect power cable which is connected to the lock mech, but to luck. No matter what I do the top button which pops up/down stays about halfway up. When I pull it up and try different combos to unlock the door there's no luck, when I release it it just pulls down.

I post how I go once I get it open.

    Cheers
