Just bought Disco2
Hi all. I have a D1 and after a recent trip to the Cape decided to purchase a D2. (The D1 did the Cape with ease, towing a camper but being a V8i it swallowed fuel almost as quick as I could put it in the tank).
I have just completed the purchase of a Disco2 in Melbourne and will fly down there from Townsville to drive it home next week.
As it is a TD5 and my first D2 is there anything I should check for before I start the 3K trip back home.
I don't mean the obvious oils and water etc but things that are pertinent to the D2 itself.
I will be stopping just north of Sydney for a few days where I have access to a very good workshop but as I am flying down will have just very basic tools til then.
Cheers, Rick.

Fuel lines around tank and filter for chaffing (up under right rear guard). All hoses, tubes under bonet for chaffing. Electrical tape and cable ties are your friend.

My two cents worth
have a look at http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...02-2004-a.html - but a lot of information here.
My two cents worth .... Some that I would look at are common issues that seem to always crop up.
First one I would look at is there oil at the ECU. If so, clean the connector with a dissolvent. (degreaser, brake cleaner etc). The wiring loom in the engine will need to be replaced at some stage, but cleaning it will be enough to make the journey, as the oil gets there very slowly (via capillary action) and cleaning it makes a huge difference. If there is oil, as the oil stuffs up the signal to the injectors.
Is the fuel pressure regulator (FPR) and / or its front pipe leaking. the regulator is at the back driver's side of the engine, with a fuel hose parallel with the intake manifold to the front of the block. A leak from here is common. The front hose leak will cause issues with the alternator (front hose can leak down to the alternator) and spray diesel everywhere. The FPR leaking will put diesel on lots of stuff (starter motor etc). If it's leaking, it needs to be replaced before a long journey is done.
Check for water in the diesel - open up the bleed valve in fuel filter in RHR wheel arch and see what comes out (use a clear container to see if any contaminents etc). If so, some action required, but fuel quality should be ok on main highways.
Check all oil levels before starting the journey, if really particular. If auto, then do a search on how to do it properly. (Need to have engine running etc - no dipstick).
I'm back in Brisbane on Friday night. If you have any dramas, PM me and I'll see if I can assist you on Saturday, if you are passing through on the weekend. I'm sure others along the way will be willing to assist, if you have dramas.
Some good LR places along the way (Some in Victoria, Newcastle, Brisbane, Gympie etc), so if you have dramas, hook up with them for repairs.
Cheers

Check every inch of every hose including the little one under the turbo. If there is any chafing, pad it.
