    BOOST BOXES

    Hi

Was thinking about upping the boost a little on the disco, do these things really do what they claim to??Meaning will it def stop the ECU from going into overboost?
Who's got one,and what are you thoughts??Any brands in particular?

    Cheers

BAS - Bell Auto Services in the UK sell a very good 'boost-box' for just over AUD$163 however, if it's far better performance you want, combine that with a BAS Variable Geometry Turbo and you'll get it for half price.
The VGT and boost-box combined will cost you just over $1400 delivered to your door at the current exchange rate. Mine's winging its way to our shores now

If finances prevent you buying the VGT package, buy the boost-box and install it with the very comprehensive supplied instructions, adjust your waste-gate to the recommended setting and away you go.

If you have a remapped ECU and EGR removed - you'll notice the difference straight away. Not arm wrenching power but an improvement on what you have now. (Although I've driven an up-spec Disco with VGT etc fitted and man-oh-man...are they ever good!!)

If VNT = less turbo lag then that would = a very interested robbotd5. Will it bolt straight on with no mods?

The bas and irb vnt is direct bolt on.

Depending on what level of tuning you are running you may need the IRB anti limit box that adjust MAF and MAP readings.

So you run a boost box on yr machine at the moment? And I'm guessing that yr after a limitless bit more. I currently have a rechipped ecu, and it has a fair bit of go, although I was wondering if I can gain some more with the box, as another turbo upgrade is a bit much at the moment. Do you have to make any other mods along with the boost box?
Do you have change the Maf Sensor over as well?

    Cheers

I read a lot of threads saying chip it etc, you need the extra power.
My 2000 td5 auto is not chipped or remapped as far as I know, and I can squeal all 4 off the line on dry bitumen until traction control does its job.
Plus towing a 1t trailer for my business with quite enough get-up-and-go for me. Mt Ousley out of Woollongong is a breeze.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but are these mods really necessary, or are my expectations too low, having swapped straight over from a 300tdi defender??

swapping from a 300tdi to a td5, is like swapping from a pushbike to a motorbike. your expectations are way to low.
Personally the td5 is still not powerful enough in standard trim. I've only driven a chipped one once, and stepping out of my t5 transporter into it i still wasn't overwelmed.

I got Tombie upgraded ecu highest you can go without modding Auto, 3.5" Exhaust, Big Intercooler, de EGR'd, Wastegate adjusted up, and it wont spin all 4 no matter wet or dry. admittedly i got 18's with nice road tread.
