Steering damper had it?
Fellow Roverphiles, I really love the D2, but yet again I have a new problem! Immediately after recently replacing the rear discs, I started getting a violent vibration through the steering wheel at 80kph. I have had the suspension checked, wheel alignment and balance to no avail. Any ideas gratefully received.![]()
Steering damper had it?
I would say that seeing as the issue started after the rear disk replacement, it has something to do with that.
Have you checked they are installed correctly and squarely?, were the hub flanges clean and free from corrosion, look at the obvious first
Thanks Discolaw, yes steering damper replaced, made the steering tighter but didn't stop the wobble.

Who replaced the discs ? You, or others ?
What are your front tyre pressures ?

Thanks SidderC, good suggestion and logical thought. I was very careful, cleaned the new discs and axle ends, daubed with grease (copper) and secured with the set screw. so I really hope not. I will pull them off and check again.

Fluids, I did the work. was very careful, cleaned and painted with HT Caliper paint, kept the surfaces clean, secured with set screw and replace caliper then test spun the axle without then with the wheel on.
As replied to SidderC, the vibration feels like it is shaking the whole car, so I'll pull the rear wheels off and re-check every thing.
I have a slight buzz at 80km/h through the wheel, not quite as bad as you're describing. Is it only at 80km/h?
Perhaps some sort of weird harmonic or something.
I have the same little wobble on both of our D2s ..at 80km/h.
I was told up to 70 Kph look to the front first above 70 look to the rear first. Did the wheels go back on the same side as they came off. When we got our D2 the wheels/ tyres had not been rotated. When we did rotate we had issues for a while. Can you see if you lost a wheel balance weight they usually leave a mark on the rim.
