Best way is to purchase a nanocom for around $400, then purchase the remap file from the U.K for around $350 and load it in.

You can get the file from Td5 alive and a few other places, they just email to you after you give them a few details on what sort of map you want.

It's a question of which ECU is fitted to your vehicle, rather than which is best.

Before MY2002 the ECU was made with a One Time Programmable memory chip which needs to be replaced with a socket and reprogrammable chip to allow a tuned map to be installed. For this reason it is called "Rechipping". The ECU's which need this treatment have a part number starting with MSB.

From MY2002 onwards LR changed the design to a flashable design which can be upgraded by loading a tuned map file using Testbook, Nanocom, or similar. This is what is known as "Remapping". The ECU's which support remapping have a part number starting with NNN.

Your D2 is either a MY2002 (if it's pre-facelift) or MY2003 (if it's post-facelift) so will have the NNN reflashable ECU which can be remapped.

Anyone remaping using a Nanocom, make sure you follow the instructions to the letter. If things don't go right you will brick the ECU

Hi Ollie,

The NNW is a part number reflecting the specific tune loaded at the factory. You'll find three identifiers on the ECU. On the lid there will be a large sticker with a VIN barcode, and a smaller sticker with the VIN and NNW part number.

On side of the case opposite the ECU connectors there will be a white sticker with "Land Rover", "Angers" and the model number of the ECU. It's this number that tells you specifically what the ECU is.

That said a NNW part will be a NNN ECU.

The critical thing with reflashing is that the battery has adequate charge and absolutely no ancillaries are running or more importantly switching on and off while you are flashing the ECU.

What I think has been a key factor in my bricking and another bricking reported on the forum is that reflash was attempted when the engine was hot. I've read elsewhere that there is potential for the aircon fan to fire up to assist cooling when the engine is hot, so even if all other ancillaries are off you can get caught out.

Also Colin from Black Box(Nanocom Manufacturer) recommends that a good quality SD card is used.

definetly worth it and the alive remap is top notch
