Thanx Peter ... but it's a little more sinister than a misplaced hose. There's a cracked piece of metal involved now (see above attached pic) and I'm looking for options.

My mechanic says he's never seen that happen before ... So glad to be the first.

Looks like I'm in need of a new turbo ... $1400

Look around before you commit to that. You should be able to pick up a suitable garrett for $800-900 without trying too hard.

    http://www.paddockspares.com/brands/...scovery-2.html

On current rates that is $690AU. Express courier will be $100-150 tops.

From Rimmer Bros you'd be looking at just over $900AUS sent UPS Express Saver. If you ordered today you'd have the turbo by monday or tuesday.

    cheers

    Thanks Paul!!

Unfortunately I need the car back on the road asap ... so I'll be paying extra for that privilege.

Yes ... second hand would've been cheaper but you never know what sort of work it's done.

I can't see the photo terribly well, but if the crack you're talking about is on the flange, bolted onto the turbo, surely it can be welded for next to nothing.
If you're contemplating a new turbo, I would give it a go anyway.
    PS I haven't goy a TD5 so I maybe talking crap......again.

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
