air con drain extension - mongrel job!

I attempted the preventative measure this arvo of adding an extension pipe to lead water away from the XYZ switch. No worries I thought. I'll just pull off the duckbill valve, see what the diameter of the pipe is and then insert a length of tube etc. Well, I put my hand toward the drain(which is very hard to see), twisted and pulled to have the entire bung(see photo) and it's interior length removed from the air con innards. The duckbill valve bit was already missing. I'd highly recommend not repeating what I did! The replacement from below of the bung is impossible(for me), plus the internal pipe bends and enters the air con, this means you have to fiddle with the interior to find where to plug in the internal side of the hose and reinsert into the floor from the interior. For those who are interested, the hose shown below(see details written on hose) is a perfect fit for the drain, and will only go so far until it hits a smaller diameter as goes inside the car. Anyhow, can someone please explain how to contort my arms to reinsert this hose while I'm under the car, without having to removed exhaust and xyz switch?

As far as I know you can't. The exhaust needs to come off & the front crossmember. Be aware the xmember can be difficult to refit as the chassis rails can flex inwards on removal.

I've reconnected both the internal end to the A/c outlet and removed, cleaned and extended the drains externally.

Pulling the whole hose is quite a feat, maybe a piece of rope inserted inside it poked up through the hole and pull up from above and fiddle from below as well?

I found that inserting a smaller diameter hose into the drain hose does not work as well as a larger diameter hose fitted outside the drain hose. less resistance to drainage.

Maybe you should change the title from mongrel job to ham fisted job

For the drain extensions I used lengths of 12mm black polythene garden irrigation pipe fitted with a barbed 12mm pipe joiner - just pushed the joiner with pipe attached up into the rubber duckbill.

I used some 9/16th marine fuel line. Pulled the duck bill off, put a smear of sikaflex around the outside of the pipe and pushed it in. I then cable tied in position and left to set. Seems to work fine. I used about a metre of pipe and ran it down and along the chassis rail so it just sit below it about an inch.
