1000 CCA is fine if you're starting a 6 litre Caterpillar Bulldozer but probably a bit of an overkill for a 2.5 litre Td5.

We bought SWMBO's D2a new in 2004 and have replaced the battery once. The replacement battery was a Delcor and identical with the factory original.

Just had a quick look in SWMBO's D2a manual. For the Td5 LR specify 'Group31, sealed for life' and 110 AH. There is no mention of CCA.

The factory battery fitted from new was a Delkor 31-900, 100AH, 160 RC, and CCA (18 degrees C) 900.
As I said before I know this is the same as the original as when it was replaced it was replaced with an identical battery.

Caterpillar batteries are renowned for their ability to withstand vibration. So if you are planning on driving on a lot of corrugated roads (outback touring) could be a good choice. If you are not the extra you may pay for a Cat battery could be saved. Optima spiral wound batterys have excellent vibration characteristics and would be a good choice too. There'a a thread on here somewhere where the ECU?/jack? was moved and 2 optimas put in the same space if you are looking to have an aux battery too.

For a single battery vehicle a deep cycle battery is not a good choice as it isn't designed to supply the high current required when starting. A good choice for an auxiliary battery but not a start battery.
