    Something different with 3 Amigos?

On a just completed 3,000km round trip to the Gascoyne and back the "new" engine performed faultlessly but after arrival back, the next morning I have intermittent M & S and flashing D amigos, no radio or clock and no nanocom so can't fault test, plus starter motor won't engage (dead) unless I first lock/unlock doors, so off to the electrical gurus next week.
Have already checked and topped up charge on 2 year old large battery (seems fine) and checked relevant fuses, so have reached my knowledge barrier.
I would not normally post for this common ocurrence, except the nanocom issue sounds a bit unusual.

My first thought was low battery voltage(still my bet).
Don't take this the wrong way but have check both fuse box's and all the fuses?
D2's use multipale curcuits for some items.
Have a look at your earth points too.

Did you use the air conditioning?
The flashing lights might be from the XYZ(shifter) switch having got wet from the condisated water from the drains.

    How is the fuel regulator?
Is it posibly leaking onto the starter contaminating the contacts?

All your syptoms could be related but then it may be multiple things and just poor timing of things lining up.
    Cheers, Kyle

Check your fuses under the dash. can't remember which one, but I have had a similar fault and it was just a fuse.

The Nanocom "issue" is a red herring. It just means there is no power to the Diagnostic socket, so it's an electrical fault.

You could check Fuse 20 under the dash, and Link 3 in the engine bay, but it seems more likely to be a ground issue because the problem in effecting a few subsystems. You'll get a whole range of faults if one of the ECU's isn't running, so I'd be looking at the bigger picture rather than worrying about specific dash lights.

    3 amigos etc

Thanks guys. I had checked the relevant fuses under the dash (including 20 Dylan), but will check others and link 3 in the engine bay, but I suspect like others that it will be an earthing issue (shakeup from the 1,000 km on gravel in the trip perhaps).

If you have RAVE it might be worth taking a look at the electrical information available there. Both the Circuit Diagram and Electrical Library Pdfs are invaluable for troubleshooting this kind of issue.

This is the recommended procedure from the Electrical Library pdf.

    FAULT DIAGNOSIS
When diagnosing an electrical fault follow the steps below:
    1. Read the circuit description appropriate to the reported fault to ensure a
      good understanding of circuit operation.
    2. Study the power distribution, fuse details and earth distribution diagrams and identify other circuits which share fuses and/or earth points. Check whether these circuits operate correctly.
    3. Using the photographs contained in the Connector section, locate a point on the circuit (approximately half way between supply and earth) which is easily accessible.
    4. Check that the pinout details of the connector are correct and that the correct signals exist at the correct terminals.
    5. Using the marker pen supplied (or other suitable non-permanent marker pen), mark the parts of the circuit you have verified.
    6. Continue to the next point on the circuit which is easiest to access and repeat the above.
    7. Continue this approach until a fault is found, rectify the fault and then verify that the circuit operates correctly.

Seeing the engine has been recently changed that should give you a good starting point. Check any earth connections that would have been disturbed in while removing/installing and make sure they are clean and solidly attached.

    cheers

So who is a dil then

Good News/Red Face! I went back today and checked all the fuses. Dylan & co were right. What I thought was fuse 20 was the one next door and 20 was blown. Fit new fuse and Voila - everything works.
Feedback more important than embarrassment. Cheers
