I've been thinking of all the things to check on a prospective vehicle, the list is pretty long, but wondering if anyone can add to it? I'm aware that I'm unlikely to find a vehicle without some problem, but want to elminate as many as possible in the selection process etc.

SubscriberThanks Emu, I should clarify that I don't expect a vehicle to pass all these checks, but at least when checking these things I'll know if the faults I find are an acceptable compromise. I plan on upgrading to Bilsteins ASAP after purchase.

I'd also add to the interior
- check back lights on clock, HVAC control and cigarette lighter.
- instrument cluster warning lights all present and working

Check if the fuel lines on top of the tank have chafed.
Check the fuel filter plug - likely to be brittle - replace with 10 mm x 30 bolt.
