    Updating to D2a, inspection checklist

Hi all. I am looking at updating my '99 D2 to an '04 D2a. I've been thinking of all the things to check on a prospective vehicle, the list is pretty long, but wondering if anyone can add to it? I'm aware that I'm unlikely to find a vehicle without some problem, but want to elminate as many as possible in the selection process etc.

    Inspection Check:

    Inside:
    Bonnet release cable smoothness
    Service books
    Windscreen leaks
    Three amigos
    Front seat mounts
    Rear seat rattles
    Front drinks tray
    Door lock laziness
    Window winding and tracks
    Handbrake function
    All HVAC functions
    Roof lining
    Check computers for errors

    Engine bay:
    Engine mounts
    Water pump leak
    Fuel regulator leak
    Fuel cooler leak
    Auto cooler pipes
    Rocker cover leaks
    Injector loom oil leak
    Intercooler pipes
    Power steering pipe rubbing
    Question oil pump bolt
    Coolant leak from drain plug
    Viscous fan and bearing
    Idler bearing
    Harmonic balancer
    Exhaust manifold bolts
    Check abs block plates
    Check jack

    Underbody:
    Auto pan leaks
    Transfer case leaks
    Diff leaks
    Donut
    Double Cardan
    Watts linkage bushes

    Outside:
    Discs and pads
    Rear door lock function
    Rear door upper seal
    Alpine window seals
    Door seals
    Wheel bearings
    Regards, Will

Don't for get to check the shocks for leaks, drive it in low range, check the spare tyre and maybe get a pressure test on the radiator.

Pretty comprehensive list ... it's gonna take a remarkable car to past that test!

Thanks Emu, I should clarify that I don't expect a vehicle to pass all these checks, but at least when checking these things I'll know if the faults I find are an acceptable compromise. I plan on upgrading to Bilsteins ASAP after purchase.

Have added your input to the list.
    Regards, Will

I'd also add to the interior
    - check back lights on clock, HVAC control and cigarette lighter.
    - instrument cluster warning lights all present and working

Might be also worth merging in the LR Used Vehicle pre-sales inspection list from RAVE.

    Hi Will,

If the aircon drains have not been extended the gearbox selector switch could become an issue.

Check if the fuel lines on top of the tank have chafed.

Check the fuel filter plug - likely to be brittle - replace with 10 mm x 30 bolt.

    Good luck with the purchase.

    Cheers,

    Franz
