You should have a look at the JE Engineering Stud kit.

I can't personally vouch for their efficacy but they seem a popular fix in the UK. You need to email for a pricing and to place an order but as I ordered a set without gasket a couple of days ago and paid £35 + £7 postage.

I've done over 20K Km on stock studs and a skimmed manifold. There has been no sign of warping as yet.

I think retorquing the manifold nuts after a couple of weeks driving probably makes a difference to manifold survival regardless of what studs you are using.

High Tensile Studs are appealing however if the manifold does warp, is it going to rip the threads out of the head? i.e. should the studs be the 'weak point' in the design rather than the head?

I would rather replace studs than a head any day, but the other alternative is to use high tensile studs with copper nuts - theoretically the nuts would give way (strip) before the studs broke.

I have not made up my mind yet which way to go, but the high tensile studs and the copper nuts do appeal to my sense of 'it sounds logical' ;)

In future I will definitely be checking the studs / nuts on a regular basis :(

Will you enlarge the manifold holes to allow these longer studs to flex?
I figured it is a shearing load breaking the studs? I drilled the holes 1,2,4,5 to the next size after the manifold was milled, 6000ks so far all okay.

I run them oval not oversize but that works

So paul how did they go? I need to do mine and tossing up against the Wurth stud kit or the J E ones .
