    Valve assembly-depression control

Do I need to replace this on a regular basis?
    Does it filter something?

Not really, its a pretty simple bit of kit remove it, clean it and try to suck and blow through both ends. if it offers differing resistance its good.

(the reason you've had so few replies is due to regional naming idiosyncrasies, Down here that part is referred to as a crank case ventilation valve

that should be the beasty your talking about for the TD5 and it sits on the air trunk from the airfilter box to the Turbo intake.

that links to what it does for you

    thats the V8 one

and thats where it sits. For a disco 1 v8 (my bad, wrong manual...)

This link covers the D2 V8

There is a technique involved in getting it to close, which in involves sucking on one outlet while the other is blocked, then unblocking it, if you just blow and suck the valve will not close

depends on how sharply you do it.

I usually get someone else to do it, I hate the taste of old engine oil.
