Thread: EGR Vacuum Hoses?

I completely removed the modulator unit, modulator mounting bracket and vac hoses back to the T connector on the line that runs to the brake booster.

You can get vacuum connector caps from supercheapauto and similar. I ended up buying two sizes because the first lot was slightly too large. I have a pack of 5mm caps sitting here but not sure if they were the ones that were too large These slide over the open end of the "T" and seem to do a pretty good job.

Champion Cap - 5mm, CVC46 - Supercheap Auto Australia

Champion Cap - 4mm, CVC45 - Supercheap Auto Australia

Remove the lot and then tie back the wiring connector...

Then 1 plug on the main vac line from the booster...

Now this is quite an achievement for me ... You see up until now, the only thing I'd ever done to a car is change the oil!

As it turns out its the 4mm vacuum hose plug.

Now that its done can you tell me under what conditions does the old EGR operate?

I did mine other night and I took the hoses out of the caps and silicon ed the holes and pushed them back on. Am going to remove the whole Vac system when I get time. Could not get the EGR bolts out on the exhaust manifold so sandwiched the blanking plate in the EGR cooler inlet. Will do it properly when {if?) the manifold studs need doing. the EGR inlet looked exactly like yours CRUD!

Make sure the engine is cold when you do it and apply lots of WD40 at night and then again in the morning before you remove them ... mine came out easily.

I just did my exhaust studs. I found I could only get one of the bolts out of the egr pipe with my Allan keys. Ended up taking the egr pipe off the cooler and removed with the manifold. Then I had room to take the other bolt out.

Mine was the same it surprised me how much crud was in there

Hard to believe that all that gunk can build up like that and go into a motor! Has to do damage 1 would think. And yes tried all that with the EGR fitting on the manifold, even to the extent of heating with a heat gun and cooling down cycle to try and crack it open but to no avail. Just turned the inside out of the allen head on the top bolt so called it quits. the sandwiching of the plate works . Those alive tuning kits are well made
