Odd rattal sound around 2k rpm td5?

It sounds just like a pan is ratteling at 2tho.. It only happens when driving not parked..
I have removed every plastic panal checked for loose parts.. I even removed the exhaust guard over the top of the muffla..

This is realy ****ing me off not knowing what makes this noise.

    Ideas?

Sounds like the heat shield over the turbo. Either the rivets come loose or the bracket on the back of the turbo cracks. Easy to remove, 2 8mm nuts on the top above the exhaust manifold and 1 10mm nut in the back of the turbo (through a hole in the heat shield).

    Cheers,
    Nova

There is a lot on here about these sorts of rattles mine happened at 2200 rpm. It turned out to be the Hand/ Transmission brake. Some have adjusted the cable with good results I needed to replace the spring set, not the easiest of jobs but it solved the rattle.

is it just an 'odd' as in occasional rattle like something loose and rattling,
or is it like someone is shaking a tin of marbles (5 marbles to be precise) when cruising along on the level in 4th or 5th at 2000 rpm with the foot almost off. If thats the noise then its normal and a sweet sound in my opinion.

Perhaps they should have used a Discovery for this Ad instead of a Holden,
Sounds like you might be visiting SCA

Have you had the turbo to intercooler hoses off recently?

If so check the intercooler end of the black metal pipe that runs from turbo and see where the screw of the hose clamp is sitting. If it is near the inner guard it can hit against the inner guard and makes a racket when accelerating.

    cheers
