Pull the plugs again and look for a clean one,,
that'l be the one with coolant leaking into it--
as for the coils and leads, someone did post on testing them,, now where was that,,,
Hello Brains Trust
I have a 99 Disco 2 V8 petrol. I did a head gasket a few months ago. Had it rebuilt and then a few days later it was acting like the head had gone again. I mothballed the car for a few months (short of cash), and then took an interest again a couple of weeks ago to find that the spark plugs were stuffed (wish i had of looked a little closer months ago). Replaced those, it ran beautifully for a day then started missing again. What do i test next. Ill pull out the spark plugs and look for oil, id like to test the leads and coil packs, can anyone suggest an easy way of testing these? If its leads or coil packs then its relatively easy to fix, except for the obvious location issues. If its oil fouling plugs, can i do rings while the engine stays in the car, I did the rings on a 350 chev years ago but that motor was in a Monaro and i had a ton of room to work in. Any ideas and methods for testing, any other directions i should be going in. The car has only done 180,000 K's, Im a builder so its towed stuff, and had stuff on the roof. Its also done a fair bit of off road. Its always been very reliable until this problem, wish that water pump hadnt gone. Id love to keep it for another year or so if i can find the problem.
Thankyou for your help in advance![]()

02 sensors?
MAF unit?
Neither will work properly if one of these elements has gone or is on the way out.
Try the 02 sensors in the exhaust first.
These were a main (and overlooked) issue for me when I had similar symptoms following a rebuild, and a relatively cheap fix.
Good luck....![]()
Recently had the same issue with mine at 135K.
I checked the leads with a timing light while the engine was running. Mine detects current in the lead by putting a clamp around it, it then flashes with each firing of the plug the lead is attached to. No flash = no spark.
What I found was no spark in one plug and intermittant spark in 2 or 3 others.
Didin't know whether it was leads or coil packs, so I replaced both. All good again. (I suspect it was just the leads).
The Rover V8s are REALLY fussy about the HT system. If it isn't anything obvious like a gasket, etc... Then you might find that replacing the HT leads is the way to go.
Been there, done it... I thought the head gasket had gone ono mine a while back. To cut a long story short, it was the HT leads.
