    EGT gauge wiring help.

I've just received my Auberins EGT gauge and am needing some advice on getting power to it.

I know Jaycar have a blade fuse with a wire tap but which fuse should I use and do I need to also use an in-line fuse? What size? Where should I earth it?

I'm NO auto electrician ... so please treat me like a gumby an assume I know nothing!

    Thanx guys!

    Cheers

I ran a feed from a switched feed on the fuse box, through a 10amp inline fuse
I earthed it under the console using one of the existing bolts

Depending upon where you put the gauge (I put mine between the cig lighter and rear wiper switch) it might be just as easy to get the feed from the cig lighter wire.
It will go on and off with the ignition, and conveniently has a lamp wire as well, which will allow the EGT gauge to dim at night.

I fitted one to a deefer today, they don't need a big fuse 3amp is fine. Any supply that goes out with the key is fine. I suggest you use a test light. Earth anywhere there is a bit of metal structure. Cig lighter is excellent, has earth, power etc all in the same place.

Thanks SiddersC ... but that whole sentence means nothing to me! What's a switched feed and why a 10amp inline fuse?

Thanks Scanfor ... I was thinking of putting it between the instrument cluster and the driver side window (where my brake controller is).

Thanks Bee Utey but I tend to load up the 12v cig lighter when I'm on trips with various bits ... gps, phone charger, inverter etc ... so I was thinking of tapping into something else. Does it make a difference how many things are running off one wire?

If you run too much stuff from the cig lighter it will blow the fuse, so yes it does matter how much runs off one wire, HOWEVER, the EGT gauge will only consume a poofteenth of the power of the other things that you plug into the cig lighter socket so I wouldn't worry too much about using it for the feed.

Craig, under the driver's side dash is a fuse box on the right hand side. At the bottom right hand side of the fuse box is an empty slot. This slot can supply an ignition switched feed. It will take a female spade connector. You will need a multi meter/test light to check which terminal is live when you turn the key to 'ACC'. I'm offshore at the mo so I can't post any photos up. What I have done is run a wire (6mm) from this terminal to a small 6 way fuse panel under the dash. This gives me an extra 6 ignition switched 12V supplies to use. I run 3 extra 12v sockets, a UHF radio, Madman EMS2 from this panel...

    Cheers Dave
