    TD5 Air Con startup problems

    Hi Guys,
I've had a curly problem happen recently.
    99 Discovery 2 TD5 Auto.
the problem happens next start after I turn the car off with the aircon going (auto mode set to 17 degrees), leave the car for a while (half an hour or so).

When I next start the car, select drive, press the accelerator, no acceleration.
By no acceleration, I mean none, foot to the floor, nothing, just idle speed.
Get's scary if I forget about it and try to pull into traffic.
Turn the a/c to economy mode, or turn it off altogether, it instantly takes off.
I can turn the A/C on again 50 metres up the road and it's fine. It's only accelerating from idle from first startup with A/C going.

I hope I've explained it clearly.
    Any Ideas?

too much drag by the AC system, good excuse to mod it over to endless air

    Hi, I also have a D2 Td5 auto with a similar issue.

Mine's worst however, it's constant - like yours, in order to accelerate from a standing still I'll need to have the AC turned off (econ mode).

I'm still stumped with a fix.

have you guys checked all the obvious air intake and exhaust stuff first?

air filter, turbo play, collapsing hoses, locked open EGR?

    Recently changed the air filter.
    EGR has been removed.
Turbo wastegate shouldn't be in play, as the car is basically at idle when it happens, same for turbo hoses.
It's got to be a sensor somewhere, as turning off aircon makes the car work instantly.
I have a sneaking suspicion it's the Mass airflow sensor (MAF) maybe.
anyay will get back if I sort it out.

A faulty maf doesn't have that effect.

Lack of throttle response would point at an issue related to the throttle position switch. Getting the codes checked on the ECU would give you a better idea of what is actually is going on, but I'd be looking at wiring and earths related to ac and tps for a start.

If you don't have a copy of the rave cd, you need it. It has the wiring diagrams and connector information that you need to work on the d2 electrics.

Try disconnecting the wire to ac compressor clutch, clutch magnetic coil may be shorting causing excess current to electrics?
