Elec Window Motor - internal gear

    Hi all,

Drivers side elec window started playing up today. The window would go down but not back up.

Removed the motor and regular and all seemed ok. Plugged the motor into a 12v source and the motor and regulator worked fine outside of the car? so I regreased and re-installed. Same issue.

On closer inspection I found the internal gear centre rubber had failed. I have attached a pic.

Does anyone know where I can source the centre rubber piece either on its own or complete with gear?

    Thanks

    HI turbo.

My Disco had the same problem on the drivers door.
That rubber drive thingy is there to to take the mechanical shock out of the system when the window comes to a grinding halt at the closed and full open position.
...........It is the weak link in the chain.

I had a disinterested search for a replacement and found nothing.......The complete units are available, (can't remember price).
But, being a bit of a cheapskate, I decided on a temporary fix instead of a piece of wood holding the window closed.

All the rubber drive material was cleaned out and replaced with epoxy.
    Re installed and it worked.
However. It hit the down stop somewhat harshly.
I placed a rubber block in the lower door to cushion the system at window full down.

This dodgy fix was meant to be temporary until parts could be sourced.
12 months later and it's still working fine.

It's not an answer to your question, but this fix may keep you going until you find a part, or spend some dollars for the assembly.

    Hey dirtdodger,

I ended up doing something similar to your fix.

I removed the rubber driver drive and gave all the parts a good clean to remove the grease etc..

Applied a liberal amount of Selly's super strength Araldite underneath the rubber drive, around the metal shaft and the top.

I let it set for over a day now and my initial impression is that it may actually work. Ive mounted the motor and regulator back into the car but have decided to wait the recommended 3 days for the epoxy to set before I start to test with the full weight of the Window going back up.

I'll post the results in a few days.

    Thanks
    Tony

    Thanks

sorry didn't keep the box.......................wish I did, along with the receipt, Murphys law struck, the motor has been in for nearly 12 months, put it down this morning and it is making very groaning noises all of a sudden. I must have jinxed myself. Looks like another one to go in.

Not sure about the groaning noises, mine sounded normal but the window would not go up.

It's had 3 days for the glue to cure now so I'll give it a go when I get home.

In regards to your issue it could be number of things. Pull it out and let us know what you see.

As my motor was still working and the regulator still looked good I didn't want to part with a 100+ for a new genuine motor until I had a go at fixing the gear. I can use the money for my leaking fuel reg.

Concluding this thread with the final results.

The Araldite repair worked out great. The elec window works and sounds exactly as it did before the rubber drive in the motor assembly failed.

Have been giving it some use over the weekend and all is good so far.

    Hi All,

    Just an FYI

Unfortunatly the my Araldite fix didn't make it through the summer. Purchased a new window motor and all is ok again.

    Thanks guys.

I wish I had found this a few days ago. I was searching with D2 and Discovery 2 in my search and didn't get to this thread.

I ordered a regulator only to find the motor had also gone. (2x postage).

I pulled the motor out today as the new motor wont get here until at least next Wednesday. What a surprise but exactly as you guys have.

I have filled the break with silicon to see if it will hold for a few days before my new motor arrives.

My issue was the gear was turning and had a fair amount of force but I didn't know how much it should have. As it was turning I was told it was OK but as your photos show that's not always the case.

    Happy Days.
