    New Disco and some Questions

    Hi Al,

l my new Disco below I introduced myself in new members thread but some questions and more detailed pics

    Front View

    Side View

    Engine Bay

What is this plug for there are two at each of the top corners (below) windscreen which appear to go back into a main wiring loom

Are my side steps suitable for hi lift use they look like sliders and are welded to the chassis rails on brackets (somebody told me he thinks they are AR

It has a factory fitted bull bar which appears to have recover points protruding through the bumper in line with each chassis rail. I dont think bull bar would ever hold a winch but the points sticking out are approximately 6 to 8mm steel and are bolted to brackets which appear welded to the chassis rails. thoughts on these for snatch strap use with or without a bridle some pics

Pretty happy 130,000 K's near new Bridgstone AT's on it, straight as a die and it appears not beat up at all below

So I am serviceing this weekend just fuel filter, oil filter(s), air filter and new oil at this stage any tricks to it pretty comfortable apart from the centrifgual filter is this difficult. I bought a gregorys discovery manual and all the gear from the online Landrover dealer so I think I should be OK

This will be first of likley many questions as I am going to look to build this into a family tourer but have to start somewhere and this is my starting point

hope to see you out there one day

Gday mate, Nice ride. Regarding the factory bar I had one on my last TD5, if your brackets are sort of part of the bar be carefull snatching off it as I did this when I was broken down on Bribie beach and the force nearly pulled/pushed the top of the bar into the bonnet. If its like mine was I would'nt use them. I nearly made an expensive mistake that day.
I have those arb steps on mine and no I would'nt jack by them mate.

    Welcome to AULRO crog.
    Nice looking rig
The plugs are IIR for a heated demister in the windscreen glass fitted in over seas markets.
There are lots of spare plugs as one main loom fitts all was easier for adding the market driven accecories.

I'd prefer to see the bars in person before passing a comment.
Having said that feel free to join in on any trip, look in the up comming area reguarly.

If you can't find what you need for the service in The Good Oil have a look at this site....

Thanks for welcome guys really looking forward to doing some overnighters up around Thompson here in Vic my favorite place is Otooles flat, not to hard to get to but couple of creeks which make it a little more difficult and you dont get the weekend carloads

    As to comments

No they are not part of the bar they are physically seperate and protrude through the plastic bumper and are bolted to brackets which appear welded to the chassis the second last pic shows the recovery point head on and the bracket it is bolted to which appears fixed to chassis rail and welded. Might put my snatch on around a tree and give them a pull and see if bull bar moves but I cant see how the rails are attached

Cheers for links and help i will introduce myself there and hopefully me and boy can grab the swag and do an overnighter as I am only a couple of hours from the Vic high country and have only ever scratched surface around Jamieson, Heyfield and Walhalla

It's a stock bar, and the mount looks to be standard. The "points" are part of the bar mount, and shouldn't be treated as anything better than a relocated stock tow point.

The centrifugal oil filter is no sweat mate. I think there is two 10mm bolts and thats the lid off. Then the filter and don't forget to change the o ring as well.

Just be extremely careful with those 6mm bolts (10mm spanner) as they are prone to stripping the threads in the housing so don't overtighten.

The full flow filter is awkward to access - I place a plastic shopping bag around it when removing and this then catches any oil that spills while manouvering it out and around the exhaust pipe etc.

Nice rig mate. As above don't snatch off the (weak As) LR brush bar - I have one on my d1). You will need rated recovery items attached aft of the crush cans on chassis rail(s).

Don't know of 4x4 Intelligence still do them but I got mine there + heavy duty

    Cheers mate
