    oil leak under turbo?

I recently degreased my TD5, & found the obvious oil sources were the rocker cover gasket & where the breather hose joins the rocker cover. These are fairly minor leaks & a new gasket & hose are on the list as soon as I get the 3 Amigos sorted.
HOWEVER - there is a major oil leak coming from somewhere near the back of the engine hidden under the exhaust manifold & turbo. I can't see where its coming from, I just see the mess on the sump.
Any ideas where it might be coming from? I'd like to get it fixed before the pink slip in December (rather than doing the night before degreaser thing).
    Cheers,
    Alex

Check the oil filter! surprising how often they leak and there is the oil pipes and oil sensor there to, all potential characters.

    Cheers Scott

Thanks Scott - I suspected the oil filter but I don't think that's it. I guess I'll pull the exhaust manifold off when I do the rocker gasket etc.
It'll give me a chance to de-web it too

Yes, the only real way of knowing is A- clean it down and run it then check again, B- get your hands dirty and get stuck into it! The clean it and run it is what I would do first, Particularly if there is oily residue all over the block under there. easier to see fresh oil on clean motor! Good luck

I was in a similar situation some months back with my Td5 Disco. I'd been chasing what seemed to be a fairly small "oil" leak that appeared to start somewhere up on the driver side of the engine block and running down toward the front diff and sump area.

My local LR mechanic was replacing the oil cooler so i asked him to try and track down exactly where this leak was coming from.

It turned out that it was a badly worn front diff pinion seal. The diff fluid was being flung upwards by the propshaft as it was blown backwards by the movement of the vehicle. I had about 500mls of fluid left in the front diff when this was discovered...

The diff oil looked and smelt pretty much like engine oil to me so I never suspected that its' source could have been anywhere other than the engine.

Best of luck with your troubleshooting. I hope you can track down the source of it.

    It's quite satisfying having a Td5 without an oil leak....so I'm told!
