    Coolant Leak

    Hello all, newbie to the site here. Can anyone shed some light on a issue I have with my D2 V8 2000. My problem is a very steady coolant leak from below the rear passenger spark plug port, Cylinder #7 i think. I have browsed other threads on this site but nothing similar. My thoughts are head Gasket , I have tested compression and get 150 at all cylinders (dry test). Does anyone have any other thoughts or areas i could check before going down the HG road. I have attached a photo of the area (Hope it worked).

    This is likely dripping from a leak at the rear of that head, it's not uncommon to find signs of coolant along the front and back edges of the head gaskets. Use a torch and a mirror to have a look there. No LRV8 head gasket lasts forever, sadly. You will need a top overhaul gasket set, new bolts and a 12 point 8mm socket for the rocker cover screws. And the ability to work in confined spaces!

    Or bung a bottle of stop leak in, see how it goes.

    Well first comment engine with NO secondary air, Fed mandate for us.
    The cast boss would have a threaded port and a Y pipe/connectors. Do you have that little lot down under?

    There are no coolant block transfer ports near that bolt. All I can think about is that common problem of head gasket fret at the back and front of the head gasket where the slot style transfer ports are which is only about 1/4" wide at best. On heat up and cool down a small amount of coolant leaches out and runs usually down the back (or front) of the block leaving tell tale signs--eventually!
    In your case it might just be running along the head to block joint and if you park on a grade facing down at night or at work it might just be running forward and dripping evaporating off as the engine cools down.
    Equally the inlet manifold can leak coolant at the back and do the same thing, but judging by what you have my money is on the head gaskets.

    no secondary air here dennis, thank goodness, we also don't have EDC tdi engines either

    All sounds very "jollie hockey sticks", but you also nowadays you get a note in the mail that if your car is a polluter, represent it for test or 'else!

    Use 6 point socket for head bolts

    Use a 6 point socket to undo cylinder head bolts. 12 point socket won't do the job on these hard to undo suckers.If similar to older engines, need to use locktite to stop bolts from slowly releasing due to thermal cycling.

    Yeah, we are are allowed to pollute more in this country as we have a carbon tax.
