Window winder/regulator replacement
Ok so I can find threads on doing a couple of fixes but no threads on how to pull them apart.
I have a issue with the drivers window it will go down but not up without help and making all sorts of noises, I have popped the top rubber off and can see a bit of corrosion on the tracks from what I can see from the top.
So I will go for a whole replacement from Bundalene that I am watching on ebay but I dont know where to start to pull it all apart.
Anyone have a guide on how to pull the door card off and the winder/regulator being swapped out ???
I thought I might been in the LR gods favour after getting my alternator replaced and this happened on the way home....

Hi Dazza67,
I've had to replace my front passenger door window winder on one occasion and on 2 other occasions, replace the central locking mechanism unit on the driver's side, so I have had the pleasure of pulling apart my front doors on 3 separate occasions. (This was on my previous 2002 model D2.)
If it's your first time, allow up to 4 hours. You basically have to take the whole door apart, including the rear view mirror and metal window/door frame, before you can access all of the internals. It's quite easy to replace the window winder unit once the door is stripped out as it is quite straight forward.
The trick is to take the inside door panel off using a flathead screw driver or a special door panel removal tool. I ended up buying the tool as it makes the job much easier and doesn't break as many clips. Happy to lend you the tool by the way. Oh, you need to unscrew the small screw behind the inside door handle/latch. Pull the latch out and you will see the screw in the middle. There are also screws on the bottom of the door panel underneath the pocket/storage area. I think there are 3 or 4 screws from memory.
Once you've taken the door panel off, then carefully remove the plastic sheet by slowly peeling it off. Be careful not to rip it as you'll need to stick it back on afterwards. Then take the rear view mirror off and then the actual door/window frame off as well. There are a number of big screws which hold the door frame in place. I can't remember off the top of my head exactly how many, but I think there are 4 large screws all together which hold the window frame in place. Once all the screws have come out, then slide the whole window frame out of the door.
After that it's pretty simple. Just look around and feel around for screws which hold the window slider "X" frame thing in place and then take that whole unit out. It shouldn't be too hard to figure the rest out once the glass has been taken out of the door. Then once you've replaced the "X" frame slider thing, it's simply a matter of putting everything back in the reverse order and hope you don't have any spare or loose screws at the end!
Mate, not exactly the best instructions I know, but I hope the above can help you in some way. I'm happy to talk you through it some more if you want to PM me your phone number.
Cheers and good luck with it. I'm not the most mechanical minded, so if I can do it, anyone can!
Ernie.

No need to remove frame or mirror to replace just the regulator, remove bolts and secure glass in frame with tape while you remove the reg
