Hi Guys,
I took my D2 for a spin up to the High country last weekend (thanks 4x4 Earth) and with it fully loaded and going over some substantialy rough terrain, the rear wheels have been cut to shreds by the top of the guards when at full compression.
I run 265/65/15 Maxxis Bighorns on Procomp steel rims with Toughdog coils and adjustable shocks - 40mm lift i believe.
I expected these would fit inside the guards, but I guess not. Im not entirely sure of the offset on the procomps - what is the correct way to measure this? In anycase, im stuck with them.
Is anyone else running into this issue with this type of set up?
Is it easier to cut the guards back under the arch trims (the OEM decorative type) or fit bigger bump stops at the detriment of flex, or maybe polyairs?
Budget is tight so there will be no super dooper revamp of the suspension.
I like my setup as its a good comprimise between ability and touring. Perhaps the camping setup needs to go on a diet? Ive got a fridge and heavy homemade drawer system in there which drops the clearance significantly.
Any ideas?
Procomps are completely the wrong offset. The rims sit too far out. I think you will find they are a 0 or maybe +6 at best. You need a rim at +30 at a minimum so those tyres don't rub.
The procomps are also illegal as they are way over track (distance between tyres measured centre to centre). Your insurance may be voided.
Mate change the rims, it's the best option. Changing bump stops will limit travel way too much and stuff up the ability of the vehicle ....you will get stuck much more easily.
The guards can be cut and aftermarket flares fitted, but those flares cost $500 to start with,
And finally, with that offset, rolling the guards will not be sufficient, the tyres will still hit the guards severely.
Steel rims are available with the right offset and are about $ 110 each, I think, maybe someone else can give a more accurate price on those.
Factory rims are available at about 400 a set give or take.
Good luck mate
Cheers
