Sure is but a little less of the "old" thingy Im old enough to have made my share of ac dc and Susie Q but cant ever remember doing it like they do now
And when you get a stereo Michelle, make sure it has Bluetooth capability . That little add on is just so fantastic along with usb and ipod.. I have a JVC with that and 32 Gb of music on a flash drive ! WhooHoo Rock on Baby!!

There's a third party adaptor also available for the steering wheel controls but as she doesn't have them it's not an issue.

Din connectors are a round multi pin design used for some audio purposes but definitely not car audio. The car head unit connectors are an ISO standard plug.

LR doesn't follow the ISO standard exactly but the main wires are as per the standard.

Bluetooth is probably handy but I don't miss it on the unit I have.

The iPod/iPhone sits in behind the front panel of the head unit and connects via USB. You can also use a USB stick. I have a sneaking suspicion these units are about to be revised due to the change in the dimensions and the connector on the iPhone 5 and current gen iPod touch.



I have a oldish iPod touch permanently in the unit, but I'll have to change that behaviour over summer. Today I got in the car after it had been sitting in the sun for 4 hours in 38 degree heat and the stereo couldn't access the iPod. When I popped it out, the screen was showing an over-temp shutdown warning.

After a bit of a google I found that the thermal protection kicks in when the device hits 45ºC. The iPod was hot to the touch but started to come back to life after about 10 minutes with the air con on. I think I'll be putting it in the cubby in future.

I have just changed my head unit over
I had the head unit out to do the back light thing and well things changed.
I was doing an upgrade for a fellow driver who wanted to use his iphone for music in his truck and well...
Can you see where this is going?

Yep, 1 sony radio (cdx-DAB700U) bought and fitted.
It came with the ISO plug which I found out about after buying one
It was just a matter of swaping the radio frames over and a plug and play.
A check of the wiring diagram/rave showed all the wires lined up.
It could be done in less than 1 hour, a bit longer if you need to fit a digital arieal.

So I now have...
AM/FM/LW/MW/Digital radio,
Single CD,
Front Aux input (MP3 and ipod,iphone),
Front USB port.
It also has a detachable face if your into doing it

Alien just to be sure does this mean that the Sony (cdx-DAB700U) just plugs in to the LR D2 loom? and needs no adapter?
is $ 208 good price for the head unit

Just had a look at the install instructions for the dab700u. It comes with an ISO to Sony adapter cable.

Sorry Offtrack, into hifi but not car stereo's these days...

does that means yes it needs an adapter or no it doesn't ?

I bought mine with an upgraded LR sound system and 6 stack under the seat... All Eurovox and really quite good sound. If I went a new system like this Sony head unit will it plug into the stacker wiring to control the stacker?
