    Centrifugal filter noise?

    Hi Guys

I think it's the centrifugal oil filter on my Td5 that's making a whirring noise after I switch off (but not everytime) ... does this mean I urgently have to replace it?

    Thanks

No - as its a bypass filter its not urgent.

Mine makes the whining wind down noise every time (genuine LR part).

If you go for a very short drive and the oil is not up to temp it does not operate so you wont hear it. Maybe that's the cause?
    Cheers

Whirring is good. The centrifugal filter should spin at up to 15,000rpm and I treat the spin down whirr as an indicator that the filter is working correctly. With a genuine LR filter it usually takes 10-20 seconds for the filter to stop spinning when the engine is warm.

There is an interesting blog post on aftermarket centrifugal filters here: http://www.handyhowie.co.uk/handyhow...il_Filter.html
