Check that the compressor clutch is all still in place. The bolt in mine came out and the front half of the clutch fell off, luckily it was jammed down by the inter cooler pipe

Great timing with near 40 degree temps forecast for the next week.
My a/c has suddenly stopped blowing cold air (fan still works). I've checked the 2 obvious fuses under the steering wheel and in the engine bay, just in case.
Are there any other simple checks I can do before I go to the a/c specialists and spend the kids inheritance?

Ouch! not nice in this weather. I'm not a D2 air cons expert but based on the protracted repair/rebuild of the Alfa's system this year, the following are a couple of suggested places to look.
If the fuses are ok and the aircond clutch on the compressor is not engaging when you turn the aircond on then you may have a gas leak. Auto aircond systems have a low pressure safety cutout which stops the compressor when the system has no/low gas. Generally not a difficult job for an auto electrician/ aircond specialist to sort out.
Others areas to look are loose wires and possibly the relay.
Good luck
Steve
Mine stopped working a few months back due to dirty contacts on the relay in the engine bay.
It's now struggling with this heat so I think it needs a regas, I'm waiting for some contact details off someone for an aircon specialist they work with and will get him to have a look. I'll pass on his details when I get them Gavin as I believe he lives south of the river.
Rich
Thanks Rich, Steve and Gordo. Rich - that would be great - if I hear of anyone good in the interim, I'll do likewise and post it on. Compressor clutch seems fine to my untrained eye, as do contacts etc, so looks like it's onto stage 2.
I do know an honest aircon trained mechanic in Dianella who with his dad has been the go to/service person for our entire family for 40 years, so he will be my first port of call when he re-opens (Michael Scheider - son of Abe in Cleveland St if anyone wants a top drawer and totally honest mechanic) even though he does not claim to be an LR ''expert" - but does know a bit about them, and excellent on most other makes.

I have just got Daisy's air con fixed. We had the system serviced and drained before exporting her to Aus. It was filled on arrival by a local mobile mechanic ad the result was, frankly, not cool. With the onset of summer I bit the bullet and took her to a local garage which came out with a $700 horror story of contaminated gas and a list of jobs required to drain, flush and fill the system. I thanked him and had a think. Found another local garage doing a free system check. They found that the system had been drained and the compressor disconnected (by the second garage, 'cos there was some cooling originally). There was nothing wrong with the system and it just needed filling. $200 later and it's arctic in the cab. Lesson learnt: there are a lot of bandits out there so shop around and get at least 2 opinions. If Mr $700 had said $400 I would probably said 'crack on'. Serve him right for his greed.

Are you allowed to service your own a/c systems? Or do you have to take it to a certified a/c specialist?
Good preventative maintenance is go around tighten up all the ac system 8,9,10mm spanner bolts. I found the ones on the receiver/dryer behind the grille quite loose including the compressor connections after 10 years.![]()
