    Radiator D2

I removed the engine covers while preparing to fit a Madman ESM2 Gauge. The plastic Bleed pipe from the top of the radiator was cracked and leaking. I replaced the plastic pipe with 5/16" rubber coolant hose. I fitted the oversized adaptor for the water level and temp senders in the Top Hose then leaned on the radiator bleed pipe and snapped the plastic spigot off the radiator Oops!
Tomorrow I will tap the bleed port and blank with a M5 screw, and fit the bleed pipe into an extra port in the Madman sensor adaptor, temp' repair.
I have searched and read the previous posts, I would prefer to fit a non plastic radiator.
I can check on Jan 2nd but does anyone have suggestions comments on an alternative radiator in the Brisbane area?
The Madman sensor adaptor is 38mm OD with a 41mm barb, the D2 top hose is 35mm ID, is the adaptor for the Disco1?
Regards & Happy New Year Ollie

Managed the temp repair to the broken Bleed spigot above the Top Hose radiator port. Ran a M5 tap down the centre of the Bleed port approx 10mm and fitted a stainless SHCS with sealant.
Ran the Bleed pipe into an elbow fitting where the Manman Temp sender is usually fitted.
Has anyone fitted an alternative to the standard Alu/Plastic radiator? The rad' in it looks original 11yrs old so maybe that's the life, The broken spigot is brittle.

I have read of these barbs doing this on the radiator from time to time.
Your tempory fix looks OK but remember there may be a little air in the top of the radiator.
You may be able to blead it out via your tempory screw?

Depending on what meat is left in the plastic can you get a brass air fitting in there?
A talk to a local hydrulic shop may find a fitting for the right hose size required.

There is a recent thread on alternatives to the origional alloy/plastic radiators.
Not sure which area of the forum it was on.
    Cheers, Kyle

I think a radiator should be replaced under 10 years regardless.
An aftermarket standard rad you can get for around $300.00 or these.

    Thanks Alien & Northiam

The temporary fix is there until I can sort a new radiator, the plastic bleed spigot is brittle so it puts into question the rest of the plastic parts.
Do I fit a copper alternative ( if available) or the standard?
What other jobs need doing with the rad' out
    Water Pump / Serpentine Belt / ?

I have seen the ones Northiam has given the link for advertised in Land Rover Owners International mag. They look good if within your budget.

Often thought one of these would be a go for Disco's in Australia to help provide some more cooling on those 40+ deg days.

Excuse myignorance if I'm wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that the Red OAT coolant corrodes copper.

Hi I have gone for the new standard radiator the All aluminium one looks like a great improvement but the price is a bit too high at the moment. The M5 SS SHCS repair & the bleed bypass was good short term.
    Thanks for your help

Just go the OEM and get another 10 -12 years out of one. A lot of people don't really realise how old their vehicles are when a part fails. Same as ball joints and stuff, all consumables over time.

It takes a while for both brain cells to collide but I did eventually get to the thought that the red OAT coolant is probably not compatible with copper rads'.
I spoke with an LR Tech and it seems that it is not uncommon for a rad' over five years old to be brittle enough for the bleed spigot to break when leaned on.
I am sure that I will be paranoid enough to not let leaning elbows go any where near the spigot again. I am fitting the new rad' tomorrow aNd intend to fit a rectangular plate painted yellow and secured by the shroud to rad' end cap screw (spacer under this screw is a good idea) to cover the spigot just in case.
I am working my way through the recommended D2 mod's kindly listed on this site, may be the plastic bleed hose replacement and beware of the brittle spigot could be added. Is there a spread sheet list?

    Thanks Ollie
