    Question Red ACE error light illuminating on hot days when the vehicle is stationary

    I have an odd issue. It initially came about a few days after purchasing my D2a a year and a half ago. I bought it in Sydney and on a hot day when traveling through traffic the ACE error light (picture of a vehicle with an arrow pointing out each side) illuminated red, flashing and beeping. I stopped the car and restarted and it went (came back two more times again).

    Fast forward a year and a half (in which time I have replaced the ACE fluid) and I had completely forgotten about it as it had never occurred again since that day - until today!
    Today in Hobart we reached 40.9*C and while the vehicle was idling in the driveway with the airconditioning running to cool the back for the dog, it occurred again. Again turning it off and back on got rid of it.

    The circumstances that seem to cause this that I can think of are:
    * the vehicle needs to be idling (doesn't occur when the vehicle is actually driving)
    * the air temperature needs to be hot (hotter than normal Hobart temperature)
    * the airconditioner needs to be running (not usually used in Hobart)

    Over temp I would say.
    The only time mine has done the same is on the beach in stinking hot weather.

    It does sound like a heat issue, maybe a fluid change is called for?

    BTW just seen the news tonight, hope all of you guys over in Tas don't come to any harm in the fires the heat is bringing on.

    our ACE lights (either amber or red) will come on at will, no apparant reason.
    Can be driving along and one will come on, same section of road.

    We we first got it (its 2nd hand) it came on often but the vehicle hadnt been driven much so I concluded that the system needed exercising and it did come on less and less.

    Now, usually when a light comes on it is when parking with maybe a sligthly jerky stop.

    I would suggest haveing a look at the wire diragram and cleaning the earth points first

    Any idea on the fluid capacity of the system? I drained the reservoir bottle and filled up with fresh stuff less than 12 months ago.

    I'm pretty sure there is a filter in the system (reference http://www.discovery2.co.uk/ACE_Filter.html ). Might be time that I order a replacement and change that too.

    The vehicles going to Justin Cooper next week for the exhaust manifold studs to be redone, so might get him to plug his diagnostic laptop in and see if there is an error code coming up that he can read. I don't believe Nanocom covers ACE (reference http://www.discovery2.co.uk/ACE_transducer.html ).

    Plugged my Nanocom Evolution in this evening. Despite the above reference from Discovery 2 website saying that the Nanocom doesn't do ACE, there is an ACE section. I ran the Fault test and no faults were found. It seems that the ECU doesn't save any faults that have recently occurred then!?!

    The ACE ECU does save faults. I had a pressure transducer fault logged but no lights about a month ago.

    From RAVE:
    All faults are recorded by the ACE ECU and can be retrieved with diagnostic equipment.
    While Urban Panzers site is useful you have to keep in mind that it is essentially a blog documenting work as it was done on his D2 . The ACE transducer page was last modified in November 2008 and comments refer to early versions of the Nanocom One firmware. At the time v2.03 firmware only supported Td5 ECU and SLABS on the Disco 2. If you want current information on what is supported by the Nanocom Evo check http://web.nanocom.it.

    The obvious answer would be "Because no fault has been logged in the ACE ECU."

    It's possible there are some faults that aren't considered to be severe enough to warrant logging. Noone has access to complete documentation of the internal workings of the ECU and how it behaves in every situation.

    If you don't trust what the Nanocom is reporting - and that might be reasonable - try to track down someone with a TestBook or a Hawkeye and see what is logged.

    Ta. I think I will ask Justin to try to read the codes on Wednesday when the car visits him for the exhaust manifold studs.

    Concerning if the vehicle doesn't think the error code was sever enough to log - as it deactivated the ACE, which leaves the vehicle very wobbly and swaying around even at low speeds...
