I just poked my head in under the dash and it looks like every fuse and relay fitting has something installed in it - the vehicle is an HSE so should have most of the bells and whistles.

However, the vehicle doesn't have the factory driving light setup - it never has, the driving light set up on it is an aftermarket install and I have used a factory driving light switch on the dash.

I thought fog lights/driving lights in the bumper were standard on HSE? Maybe some1 changed the lights?

Fog lights and driving lights are different. I have the standard fog lights in the front bumper. The driving lights were an optional accessory and fit above the bumper.

Ok, They were what I was referring to and I think jafir may have been thinking of them too, which is why I asked. As the fog lights were standard there is a fair chance their relays are the 1s they used and not optionals maybe. would make the running lights enable a lot easier for a dealer perhaps. Anyway was just a thought.

Somewhere on the interweb is a detailed tute on modifying the wiring to get DRL without having to use the resistor.

I have the modification and I can deactivate/activate the DRL using Nanocom. IIRC you create a wiring link behind the fuse box in the passenger compartment. I also have an inline switch mounted in the left binnacle so I can choose to have DRL on or off. Very handy when things get a little hairy

For the life of me, I am unable to recall where the tute came from

Actually there are relays, in the under dash fuse box, that are just for DRL. Not for fogs or for driving lights. Here is link with photos: Daytime running lights (DRL) not working, relay? - DiscoWeb Message Boards

The photos show a D2a style box, with a metal jumper in place of one of the relays. My 03 is setup that way. On my 1999, it had a relay in that spot. Also, the older vehicles had a resistor behind the left head light. If not installed, there should be a jumper there. Here is a TSB for North American Spec discos talking about the resistor, or lack thereof. http://www.landroverclubvi.com/uploa...8609nasf_1.pdf

Ahh, Thanks for that, the muddy waters are clearing . Mine is a late 02 model but to be honest I have not looked at it, only at the rave.

Here is a picture of mine (2003 D2a):

As you can see there is a metal jumper in place there on the top left - I assume this is what you are referring to.

Yep. So it looks like they are all there. The jumper and the top black w/ green stripe relay are the DRL relays. Perhaps that relay is bad? My 03 didn't come with fog lights, so when I needed a relay to activate them after I installed them I borrowed the DRL relay, because I didn't need it. Perhaps a repair shop could have done the same thing at some point, borrow an unused relay to fix something for you, and they just put the bad relay back in that spot?

I'd try swapping it with something else like the air conditioning relay. Worth a try anyway.
