    Relocating spare tyre

Has anyone relocated the spare tyre, say under the vehicle?
While I don't end up in the mud too often, I do often tow a small pop out caravan, that I can *almost* put up with it attached to the Disco, with just the spare in the way. Would be convenient on the road to just pull up and set up, without disconnecting everything.

I can just pop it on the roof cage or similar while travelling, but thought I'd ask the question and look for other options

    Could you lengthen the drawbar?
There is nowhere to fit a spare tyre under a Disco2.
Although if you buy a Disco3 or 4 they come like that for free.

You could always just remove the spare when you stop instead of unhitching but that is probably just as painful.

    thinking outside the square.....

thinking outside the square - try this......

jack knife the whole rig ie when you pull up arrange the 2 vehicles so the the Disco at a right angle to the Caravan. Just might solve your problem depending on the van width and towbar length.

Thanks guys. It's not just the tyre but the holder as well. Jacknifing might work sometimes (I hadn't thought of that) but thinking about the pull through caravan park spots.

    Cheers.

You could build a new rear bar with a swing out tyre carrier, here is one in the verandah section, http://www.aulro.com/afvb/verandah/1...l-carrier.html

That way you can move it out of the way in the campgrounds.

Ooh, I like that. I've actually got a swing out tyre carrier on the back of an old Terrano. might have to practice my welding skills

Yep, could do. I'd actually like to fit the van with the same wheels as the Disco when I get a chance.
