Size and location of leak + kit

I had one small leak in my airbags. This was only evident after taking them out and replacing them. At full extension, I found the hole near the fold - testing on the car was a waste of time and effort, even at full extension.

The airbags are a consumable item - after a period of time they should be replaced. I believe mine are original, so perhaps every 150k or a period of time - 3 years ? 6 years ? 9 years? Thoughts anyone?

Similarly the air compressor is pretty well useless in the same time period if there is a small leak, due to the very low duty cycle (5% according the design spec).

Has anyone found someone who has created a kit to replace it with a useful compressor? I've seen the one offs on this site and elsewhere. I have been toying with the idea of creating a kit that replaces the compressor, air dryer and valve with after market choices, with a better duty cycle and replacement parts (or at least a lower cost compressor), if there isn't one already around.

I already have a 4mm valve setup rattling in the glovebox so I can pump up the bags if the compressor fails, but this won't be under the SLABS ECU control, but manually done in an emergency.

just got some feedback fom UK site (paddockspares) and they suggested it could just be sensor trouble given that when i jack it up with the button on the dash it stays up no problem. (only sags while driving) they were of the opinion that if there was a leak that it'd still go down eventually even after lifting it with the raise button. so given this information i was wondering if anyone out there has had this go on and is there anything i could do or check myself or is it a dealer thingy???? i'm thinking it wouldn't be as simple as a fuse given it goes up and down still.... anything from anyone on this would be greatly appreciated. (i did find out from previous owner that he did the suspension/lift kit 6 months before i bought the car so its all only about 2 and half years old).

The bags stay inflated after you jack it up because you have changed the position of the fold in the rubber. this routinely masks the hole/leak and so the bag stays up.

99% of bag defalting problems are the bags, but do the soap test on all unions/joins to be sure.

cheers Alpick, i would've thought the suspension being right up the bags would be stretched right out and would expose any/all possible leaks and holes??? just thinkin logically. i really don't understand these fold thingy's and how these bags work a, thanks for your reply mate, i suppose i was just hoping for something cheap and easy..... wishful thinking i suppose......

    Nope,

If you stretched the air bags out to remove the fold you would rip the brake lines off.

Spray plenty of soapy water and you may get to see it coming out from the area of the overlap of the bag.

If that fails it takes no more than an hour for someone who has never done it before to pull and replace a bag. Try pulling the bag and fill it with air in a tub of water. They say not to inflate the bag when it is out of the car. Not sure why? Certainly would not help you putting a bag back in if you pumped it up first
