D2 dual battery install (yes another one...)

hey guys have been looking through many of the d2 dual battery install threads and have finally installed my own and would like to share it! The dual battery is mounted in the left hand side rear cargo bin area and its a 95AH sealed maintenance free calcium battery. The system i installed was a TJM IBS battery management system which has voltage indicators for both batteries as well as a manual link button for manually linking both batteries for winching and jump starting etc. This voltage indicator unit i mounted up beside the steering wheel (see pictures). At the back i also mounted a separate battery 'powerstation' which runs completely off the auxillary battery. I made this with a junction box from jaycar, an analogue volt and amp meter, 2 marine cigarette lighter sockets, and a marine panel switchboard for running a work light, extra interior lighting and a freshwater pump. off the relay i also run power to a waterproof 12v outlet which is mounted on my bullbar and all of my camping lighting plugs straight into. thanks for taking the time to have a look and let me know what you think!

Excellent setup and very close to what I'm thinking about, specifically location. Again, might be some copying going on (copy is the sincerest form of flattery!)

How difficult is it to remove the panel in front of the 2nd battery? I've had a quick look, but not yet exerted any force.
    Cheers Gavin

Feel free to copy, after all the ideas for this came from many other forum users! haha umm to remove the panel that is normally infront of where the battery is you first have to take the grill out on the left hand side and remove the two screws that hold it in, they are small torx screws by memory. then unscrew and pop off the bit of plastic on the otherside where the seat belt goes down into so you can access the screws from that side. and after that the panel should just pop off.

If I could make some suggestions though, replace the material tie downs with metal straps. Even the smallest amount of venting from the batteries will rot the material, and legally, you may require a battery box, you know those plastic ones to put the battery in....not sure, but every shop fitted interior battery is a sealed box of some sort.....might want to check that out.
Mine is currently under the bonnet up near the firewall, but could use that space for other stuff, so might be doing what you have done too.....looks great, well done.

    Cheers

Sealed Battery's are deemed safe and wont vent enough to warrant a box. in theory it can be mounted upside down also the strap should last longer in a chemical sense the metal would corroad caused by eletrolis than a fabric strap but the starp will have more issues with the heat friction an UV but have less risk of harming the battery.

Hi driftwagon and sorry mate but there is no such thing as a “Sealed” lead acid battery and bigkevg’s advice is spot on the money.

All lead acid batteries, in the wrong situation, can both gas and/or spew electrolyte.

You can use any form of battery inside a vehicle and if they are not mounted in a dedicated battery tray/box, to protect against spillage, they should be housed in a plastic battery box.

My apoligys i was on my apology phone and didn't read the full description yes a lead acid battery needs a box it will also most likely come with a fabric strap

Looks great! About to install a dual battery set up and this system looks the goods!
Where and how did you run the wires to the main battery and monitoring system?
Looking for all the help I can get!
