The alternator on ebay that is linked above isn't a genuine Denso unit!
How do I know? I bought one as a spare this week they are a JAS copy.
I spoke at length to the guy in Adelaide and he swore by them, I found it to be a good quality unit when I got it.
That said the one I got did have a problem but they quickly replaced it
They do have a good quality feel to them when you take them out of the box
Just last night I purchased a alternator from overseas from a ebay seller.
It is a after market one. (mine failed on Friday , had tested and told to replace)
ebay good enough ? I check feedback ie: positive , negative , neutral . I like to ask questions and postage time .
The seller I purchased from was very quick to give a tracking number and dispatch.

Yeah they're an expensive part! Main reason I don't drive through really deep mud anymore :)
You can buy them on EBay.com from the US for about $130 and some places are pretty reasonable on the postage, about $70 or so. I would go with this if you can wait a month for it to arrive.
Otherwise $400 is a great deal for a local one!
