Advice please on the flushing of the (2004 D2) Diesel Intercooler. Rave indicates that the Viscous Fan should be removed before removing the Intercooler. It looks possible to remove the cooler with the fan in place has anyone attempted this? Rave also states a cleaner that is used for flushing, is this just poured in the cooler and left for a while before flushing with fresh water. I have to remove the intercooler to flush out the wee beasties that have accumulated.

To flush out the internals of the intercooler I use mineral turpentine.
For the exterior use a compressor with a duster attachment

Its a tight squeeze to get the intercooler out without removing the fan - as in quite literally, the intercooler get jammed between the bodywork and the radiator and has to be dragged through the gap. If you can take the fan out, then its a better way to do it.

I usually use a bucket and a bilge pump
move the hoses off of the turbo and the intake manifold put the outlet hose of the bilge pump in the outlet side of the intercooler use the other to dump into a bucket with the bilge pump in it through some kind of strainer then pump through your hot water, soapy water and hot water rinses.
in a pinch you can also use it to pump weak solvents.

I removed my intercooler and installed a d2a intercooler without removing the fan. It can be done. Its tight though!
Hardest part was asking SWMBO for help to get her smaller hands to do up some of the bolts for the tranny oil cooler.![]()
Im not sure about the flushing though. Have you looked at urban panzers helpful website? http://www.discovery2.co.uk/intercooler.html
