Wet carpets ... I'm sick of them!!!

    Hi Guys

I've got a sunroof that drains into the A-pillars and with the heavy rain recently the carpets got really wet.

I've found a drain hole at the bottom inside of the A-pillar that constantly gets blocked, the water works it's way up and comes out inside the footwell. When I poke something inside that drain hole some water comes out ... BUT ... it's location baffles me as it's not at the very bottom it's about an inch up.

My question is this ... is there another drain hole that I can't find?

    Thanks

    Craig

I'd better check that for my water leaks, though it seems to be coming in the top & dripping off the headlining & mirror into the radio/climate control etc.
Then again, I don't have a sunroof so the only entry point would be the holes where I removed the roof bars (I'm sure I've sealed them OK) or the seal around the new windscreen...
mmm hope we both get it sorted

I had my windscreen sealed and was still getting wet hoodlining down to the carpets etc. Ended up being a leak from the very front of the gutters. the sealant in the gutters had dried and cracked, allowing water to get through the panel join of the roof turret and A pillar(there are actually 3 panels joined under the gutter sealant).

If I was driving in the rain the front corners of the hoodlining would get wet before my eyes. And if parked on a flat or downward angle would fill over night.

Took a while to figure this leak out. Once found and fixed car has been dry since

That's exactly whats happening to me! I'll have to get the silastic out and have a go at this area - appears to only be happening on the passenger side but better do both just to make sure

If the gutter sealant is the problem you will have to dig out some of the old sealant and let the join between the panels dry out for a while.

Once dry I opened the panels a little and sealed between the panels with sikaflex and then refilled the gutter with sikaflex.

I would avoid silicone as some of them will become corrosive on metal over time and cannot be painted over if you want to touch up the area. Sikaflex is a better option all round in my opinion fo this job.

    Good luck with the repair.

    Definitely use Sikaflex

Sikaflex is better than silastic for flex, stick etc

Best thing to do is to remove:
    - Head linning
    - A pillar trims
    - Front door trims.

Once they're off, get someone to hose the car down. Aiming around the sunroof, Alpine windows, wondscreen and doors. You're sitting in the car and from there you can moniter EXACTLY where the water is comming from.

Yes, it will be time consuming getting all the trims off, especially if you've never done it before. But once everything is out, you will be able to confirm A) Where the leak is comming from B ) It's not more than one leak you're experiencing. Just to reinforce it, you're confirming and not guessing where it's comming from. May as well clean all the sunroof drains out while you're there

It also will allow you to check your door foils (water screen between door frame and door trim) which can come loose and leak on any car.

    Good luck!

Wet footwells is a minefield !!.

After tearing my hair out trying to fine out why mine were wet I found it to poorly applied sealant around panel joints and the bonnet hinges.

You can see below the cavity in the sealant letting water in that comes off the windscreen.

Also on the passenger side I found that the sealant around the bonnet hinge wasnt applied properly and letting water in.

After cleaning and drying the areas, I sealed then using a deck adhesive and then repainted.

    Been dry since.

Although it may seem like a big job, I think it is well worth removing the bonnet and scuttle panel and having a good check around all the joints for leaks. The bonnet is only held on by 4 bolts.

Whilst I had mine off I fixed my loose wiper motor which was clunking and resealed its mounting plate. ( starting to get a little rusty ).

    Cheers.
