Td5 Engine seems to be sucking air.

Hi guys engine change complete. Dead one out high compression long motor in. Drove for 100m and stopped. Once we got it you g agin it was running rough. Turned out to be number one injector. Swapped it and ran well. Can still hear the fuel pump when it is running and after about 3 minutes it cuts out. At first start up we realized the fuel hoses were on the reg backwards. Swapped them over and it fired up.

Engine number 10p24151a. Can anyone work out what fuel pressure reg it should have and black or green top injectors? Cheers Matt

Fairly certain it will be black injectors and 2 pipe fuel regulator.

The 15P engines were green top & 3 pipe fuel reg.

Has anyone had the hose on the fuel pump split?

In case you were wondering it is not out of fuel. We put 20 ltr in and the same thing happened. Anyone had this problem?

The fuel regulator is a 4bar unit on TD5's , are you sure the pump is suppling fuel ? I know you said it waas running but............. Fuel filter blocked? If a hose was split it probably be leaking on the ground! Certianly appears to be fuel related.

No fuel leaks. Fuel is coming out when filter unscrewed will change the filter tomorrow. My understanding is that the filter is on the return.

Leads to the next question anyone put an extra filter between the pump and the engine? Have to be a good idea wouldn't it?

Someone will surely clobber, eerr CORRECT me if I am wrong but my understanding of the filtration system is that the primary pump delivery goes to the filter them back into the secondary stage of the pump for delivery to the injectors, thence into the cooler for return via a bypass line in the filter housing into the tank? Make sense? :/ Given the lack of space to fit any sized filter that would make a difference I dont think it is an issue, Fuel at reputable stations, change filters regularly, more often is better! , and all should be good

How about a secondary filter before the cooler? Could squeeze in around the coolant res.

Td5 Engine seems to be sucking air.

Fungus in the fuel tank has killed the pump and possibly an injector. New pump and all fixed.

Note to all better get some pro mar additive for your diesel. Never know what is growing in the tank!
