Good news.
Just spoke to the bloke I'm getting to have a look at it, and it looks fine.
Even at double the labour hours, it's still cheaper than my first quote
Parts won't arrive until sometime next week, but I'm a patient man (not really)![]()
My car is not temperamental, and it does all I ask of it and more.
Even my girlfriend is as attached to him as I am.
Besides, if it was a she then SWMBO would just treat it like some sort of mistress
My girlfriend would disagree with that statement......
Not sure yet. Tomorrow will bring the news, as I only got it into el mechano late this afternoon.
Good news.

That's good new Muppet
Glad to hear that it's (correction - he's) on the mend.![]()

It definitely is mate.
Upon the advice of Xtremes LR contact, I took it into a bloke who's workshop I'd only really driven past, but who is a british car specialist.
Went in to ask him about it, there was an RFS 130 outside so I suspected he at least had some idea of what he was doing.
A quick conversation with him only reassured me further as he knew exactly what I was on about.
So in it went, and a little while later I got a phone call.
Timing case is fine, bearing is a bit messy but that's okay.
Radiator and intercooler will come out and be cleaned up, new bearing, new belt, coolant replaced, labour comes in at under $600.
Consider me a happy, albeit temporarily Disco-less Muppet
Pays to shop around don't it?![]()
Good news Muppet
Out of interest who is the Brit Car Specialist?
Always handy to know, as a long term owner of Brit cars I sort file them in the back of my head ready for unexpected moments of dubious reliabilityin far flung parts of NSW
John Cane Dyno Tune is the official title of his workshop.
Of course, I wont know for sure until I get the Phantom back but he seems to know what he's doing.
Had lots of old Jags and MGs around his shop![]()
Great to see a light at the end of the tunnel that's not an oncoming goods train!!. I've been following this post as this could happen to any of us mugs, opps, sorry, ahem, TD5 owners. We would love to come out west with the van and when we do, I'll let you know.
Regards
Robbo
Agreed!
I think I've been quite lucky with this one, haven't had any major issues, and none of the Td5 gremlins (so far, touch fake wood trim).
And as long as you don't ignore the squeaking sound on shut off, you'll be right![]()
By all means let me know, there are some nice spots around here![]()
great news! so the cover/ bearing gets repaired in situ?
jc
The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
Yep. Cover itself is fine. Bearing (pieces) need to be removed with a pull hence the IC and Rad coming out but besides that I seem to have dodged a bullet.
However I think if I get to 300k kms without coolant issues then head comes off regardless. Full clean up and it should be good for the next 300k![]()
