 No, it was a traditional two drawer setup.  
I'm heading in the same direction as you ie two stand alone shelves on runners/slides.  
I did consider cutting most of the sides and top off my prior system, but it seemed a waste of a good set of full drawers, so I sold them off and am still investigating the best type of runners.  I want to be able to use the bases for carrying boxes of tools etc for day to day work, then when going away, load up the fridge on one slide and recovery and camping gear etc boxes on the other.
I haven't decided on the method of fixing to the LR tie downs, but eyelets of some kind and shackles is the way to go for easy removal, whilst being secure when fitted.
