After I blew my 4.0 I tested half a dozen senders to get a baseline on gauge movement. The needle starts to move at 55, hits the middle (horizontal) at 77 and stays there till around 102-104 then rockets to the top at 107 then the light comes on.

I have an EMS guage with an in hose temp sender earth'd back to the block and mine sits any where in the 90's and on 45degree days towing a camper trailer had it reach 118.
Dash gauge reaches half by approx 75c and hasnt moved any higher not even when the ems hit 118c.
