Door window mechanism, some wisdom please :)

Hi all
Interesting morning this morning, went outside to head to work and the LH rear tyre on 2 ROCKS is flat as a bunny on Wanneroo Rd...no worries I thought, I'll take the manual...

Hmm, wind down the front windows and oops! The passenger side won't go back up, which means I can't secure the car. Not a good idea where I work...

So, investigation shows no evidence of broken nylon bushes in the door cavity, I can hear the motor operating with both up and down pushes on the button, but the window fails to rise. There are no pronounced noises from anything, just the motor turning.

If I pull the glass up, it seems to stay in place (or it did for the trip to the tyre shop anyhow), but a 'down' press on the switch sees it roll down, well sorta

...maybe halfway.

Now does this sound like the (nylon?) bush in the middle of the motor has chopped out?

If so can it be replaced (I see you can buy brass replacements for the nylon rollers on the arms), or is there no option but to replace the motor, if that's the issue?

Sounds like the window regulator is stuffed or the window has jumped out of the regulator support channel, (as used to happen on my old rangie).

The window regulators seem to be a common failure item, with the nylon guides that run in the scissor channel breaking up. On my D2 the previous owner had to do the front passenger side and I had the front drivers side done under warranty last hear.

If you remove the interior door trim you will easily be able to see what the problem is.

I had the same symptoms. Reg was fine but the internal rubber drive inside the motor istelf was shot.

Rok Dr, the previous owner plastered the inside of the door panels with Dynamat, so I'll have to peel this off and have look in the inspection holes.

Turbopsi, thanks mate, it sounds like I shouldn't bother with trying to fix it then, there's a mob over east who do replacement bits for the mechanism - but not that one!

Looks like I'll be off for a 2nd handy then

On mine the big gear was lying loose in the bottom of the door. 3 spotwelds had failed.I could fix it in the bush somewhere with 4 mm steel pop-rivets.A long time ago, still going strong.

Thanks for that - I will get on to them...the PS one is still cheaper than the 2nd hand on I found (although that was the entire assembly). They seem to be a lot less than I recall - or maybe I'm thinking of the door locks - I think I've changed all of the those on the 2001, some more than once!
