Thread: Discovery 11 brake lights remain on

You have mixed up wiring by the sounds of it. Did you do the rebuild or a specialist? TD5 or V8? Manual/ Auto?

Hi I did the engine rebuild my self, it is a V8 Manual, I am sure all the wiring is installed correctly as most of the connectors only fit one socket and any I was not sure of I marked as well. Thanks Des

Brake booster vacuum hose perhaps? There is a hose from the intake manifold (?) to the booster of the V8. If that is unplugged you get no assist and the pedal will be very heavy.

The brake switch is also pretty easy to knock out of adjustment if the pedal is moved back towards the driver more than normal. The brake lights will stay on if that has happened.

The brake light switch as Offtrack said. The brakes locking on is a symptom of a sticking return valve in the master cylinder. That means a M/C replacement or rebuild. to test ; apply brakes, check they are locked on, then crack a bleed screw and release pressure. Then check brake pedal again, it should have trouble applying brakes again straight away. As the return valve has not had time to unstick. This test is not 100% though

PS Just had a thought, Could it be the ABS somehow interacting applying the brakes and not releasing? Have no idea if it could do that though someone else on here may know.
