    when I did my egr I found the manifold caked with black gunk but the cooler seemed reasonably clean. the pipe goes to the manifold so I cant see how the intercooler gets filthy. The turbo should be driven by the exaust but not act as one...I cleaned my manifold with oven cleaner and a gerney......cheers

    The intercooler should really only have oil in it. It's from the breather on the cam cover which connects to the turbo inlet, unless of course your turbo is failing. There might be some fine road grime that has made it past the air filter combined with the oil.
