The same clips are on the fabric seats, and are held in place by the tension across the seat base. The only way I could get them off was releasing the back edge of the seat first.

Im looking at repairing or at least attempting to repair the element in the heated seat base in the next few weeks.
Ive read through rave and a fair few P38 repair guides that are very similar, but none of them tell me how to remove the front plastic strip - see pic

Ive had a go at it but started to crack at the edge. I think i just need to persevere a little more. Maybe a special tool or just holding your face with just the right amount of wincing would do the trick?
I am being a little sneaky and trying to do the repair without removing the seat completely - it just might be possible?
If anyone has done this before, please feel free to offer some tips. If im successful, ill post up how i went.

Good stuff. I'll give it a whirl. Did you take yours of to repair the element?

No just to replace a worn cover.
I think i found the culprit, no wonder my leg was getting hot!
Twisted the wires together for testing and voila, working again.

that looks like a fire starter!
Cheers for the info. I need to open my seats and sort out my heating elements too.
My seat has been nice and toasty for the last couple of chilly mornings.
Scotty, I'm sure you'd be missing the heated seats down in balmy Tasmania!
I never did work out a good way to get the bottom front plastic strip off - an absolute ***** ! I ended up breaking the strip slightly which enabled me to peel the front RH corner of the leather over the family. It was just enough for me to access the burn spot. The element wire is a small braid like wire, possibly covered in some material. It was hard to tell as most of the wire I could access was burnt..... down to the wire.
They haven't worked since I got the vehicle. The previous owner actually removed the switches from the center console and replaced the cover with a unit from a vehicle without the heated seats.
I have since put the switches back in only to find why they were removed. I haven't worked out exactly where the fault is as I was scared of setting the seat on fire!
Has anyone had any issues with the upper back element or is it just the bottom butt element that seems to give the issues?
They run in series, generally the base is what fails due to the constant flexing when you get in and out.
