    D2's Auto Torque Converter

A pair of questions probably for the more experienced...

What symptoms can be expected from a Torque Converter on the way out?
And what buggers up on them?

There's a test in rave. You sit on the brakes and the accelerator at it should rev up to it's stall point. If it's not getting there, could be a fault with the motor causing a lack of power, or issues with the torque converter.

Sorry I needed to be more specific..engines fine and auto passed the stall test..I mean in general driving ..would there be any symptoms or behaviour that could be linked to a problem with the torque converter?

What goes wrong with converter? Experts??!!

Also try disconnecting your MAF sensor as they can make the shifts go funny.

Generally seals are the main things with converters followed by fin breakages, input splines stripping, But by and large converters are rugged beasties. If 1 decides to play up apart from seals leaking there is often no symptoms of a specific nature.

The only thing I've seen is the lock up slipping. You can see the tachometer vary slightly with a changed load from the engine while the torque converter is coked up.

Thanks Slunnie and Scott. Will long runs at highway speeds cause symptoms to be more noticable ?

I'm not sure re my comments, but I don't think so. Just to add, in my case the motor is producing more torque and power, so that is a contributing factor.

Thanks Slunnie ...I have posted about this 12 months ago..It has been a case of waiting for it to get worse so I can find out the cause ..but that hasn't really happened.
Basically I get a fluttered shift from second to third only after long highway runs and not all the time. The first say four or five sets of lights after you get straight off the highway..then it goes back to normal . Oil level is correct..oil and filter changed twice now since this began last year no metal or large amounts of material. Valves and solenoids have been checked along with the little filter under the valve block ...all okay. Passes the stall test and doesn't slip and otherwise changes up and down beautiful . Don't want a full rebuild and hope it fixes it just yet .
