    Chimes but no Amigos

One of the joys of buying a "new" second hand car, is things you inherit from the PO...
Having had 2 ROCKS for about 6 years now, I know most of the things that are wrong, have been replaced, or are ready to be replaced again.

Enter the nameless '99 manual...there is a long list of things to be attended to, mechanical and cosmetic, but one thing is perplexing me - on start up I get the 3 lovely chimes that usually accompany the appearance of Los Amigos, however they all go out after the self-test completes and no other warning lights are evident. I assume if I had an ABS block/shuttle valve issue, the ABS and TC lights would stay on (as they did before I replaced the ABS block in the '01).

What else might the chimes indicate? It's been a while since I put the Ashcroft shifter into 2 ROCKS, so memory fails me...The car has CDL internals, as evidenced by a Momo shifter knob on a shaft that disappears down through a 'custom' hole in the trans tunnel and terminates at a socket that's supposed - I assume - to sit on top the CDL spigot and allow locking/unlocking. Needless to say this does not stay in place and to me is not much better than burning your hand stuffing a ring spanner in there...

Any ideas what might be causing the chime...?
    Cheers

If its had the slabs ECU replaced with a later version to fix ABS issues as per a LR tech buletin you get three chimes when you start the engine.

If you haven't done the wire cut mod you should get three chimes when you lock or unlock the CDL. If you've done the wire cut try reversing it to check.

The other way to check is to remove the ECU and check the part code - if it hasnt been changed you should have a srd000070 on a d2. If it has been replaced it will be a srd000150 or more likely a srd500070.

System self test - if you have no warning light nothing to worry about

If you let all the lights go out when starting you will get the chimes, if you start it straight away you will not

Only the d2a slabs ecu's do the self test. A 2001 d2 with original slabs ECU will not chime at start up.

My D2a does it now and then. Prob 50% of time it does the 3 chimes. Never knew what it was for.

AFAIR from reading a couple of nights ago, the chimes can be set for the seat belt reminder in addition to the seat belt light.
    This is resettable by Nanocom.

Yes, 6 chimes = seat belt reminder. Settable by Nanocom, but not resettable on a Nanocom 1.

It will only do the full 3 chimes if you let the seatbelt light go out before starting. I think it's probably the 6 second delay rather than the fact the seatbelt light goes out. if you start sooner you either get no chimes or two depending on how long you wait.
