Talking Buying my first Diesel D2.Is 290 000km looking for trouble?

Well after selling my D1 Disco im on the look out for a TD5 Discovery..Im new to the whole diesel thing after owning rover V8s for more then 18 years.Im looking at one tomorrow with 290 000 km on the clock.Should i be worried with this amount of km on it?
I will be checking the usual service records if it has them.If it has been well looked after could i expect to get another 100 000km out of the diesel motor? I know its a rather open ended question and many things could go wrong, but on a V8 motor i would start to become worried about those amount of km.If you see where im coming from.

I have done alot of research about what to look for in the D2 Diesel but any other info would be great before i go and check it out tomorrow night. Are there any things i should ask? Im looking forward to joining the diesel club and the fuel economy improvement.
And no doubt i will be lurking in the D2 area more often.
    Cheers
    Chris

There are plenty with higher kms and still trouble free. With some luck at though km's most of the problems that cause issue may have been changed by then. If it has a good history then you could get a bargin.

There is always a chance of something going wrong at any km's. I got mine at 316000km and although the engine runs sweet the cluch failed and took out the gearbox. It's not just the engine doing the km's the rest of the running gear ages too.

You can get some great buys out there though and I factored the chance of having to do repairs in. Working on the car is a good way to get to know it.
    Cheers, David.

At 290K's and good service history the motor should be no problem as long as it has not been overheated.
Only thing I would be concerned about is if an auto what condition is it in?
The HP22 are known to give problems around the 250k mark.

    Hi,

    I just bought a D2 (2002) TD5 manual only 3 weeks ago with 301,000 on the clock.

Only paid $6k for it but had to put some money in to fix a couple of items. It failed the roadworthy on 3 items. Brake master cylinder, low pressure return pipe for power steering and one worn rubber engine mount.

My last 5 cars have been diesel (not all landrovers either) and as others advocate that they can last for a very long time and alot higher kilometres if the services have been kept up to them.

For me it appears that its the items around the engine an not the engine itself. I can't put any authority on that though but its what I have experienced.

    Hope that helps mate.

Appreciate the info guys.It is an auto I'll be looking at.What goes wrong with the autos? I've read things about them stuffing up around the 250 mark but don't know exactly what it is that stuff up.

Haha I know that! my main concern is the motor and auto because I haven't dealt with them before. The rest of it I'm not to worried about.I've owned a few discos now, just not a D2.Let the fun begin

You should love the Td5 after owning a slug of a rover v8 . I have owned diesels for over 10 years now 2 Tdi's and 2 Td5's , I just love the Td5 you should ever love the Td5 if it has been treated right or hate it if its been neglected

    Good luck with the choice
