One year of D2 Ownership

Small world indeed.
I learnt to drive on my echo, then started looking at some options.
I've always wanted a Nissan Skyline, so started looking at those when dad's old mate from the land rover club came over.
I curiously started searching for Landies on car sales, then brought out an add and said "what do you think".
They looked at each other and said "****, he's got it too!" :p
Ironically if I'd gotten a skyline due to P plater restrictions, I'd have spent way less.
But skylines suck, Discos rule :cool:

Yep a small funny world. I got the Alfa 2 weeks before my son was born. 2 weeks age he finally got his P's and is chuffed to be able to drive the Corolla solo. He'd love a disco or defender but cash flow constrains him and he also says the same about skylines :D Haven't told him about the army auctions yet ;)

At least over here there a more realistic view on what P platers can safely drive.

Had my 99 v8 manual for about 2.5 years now. Paid 12.5k. Agreed value 9.8.
The td5's are definitely holding their value far better, always have but apart from the fuel consumption I love the v8

Just spent almost 5k, heads off, entire cooling system is basically brand new.

Apart from that just the usual consumables, drive it every day, use it for everything. Still love it to bits!

Oil in turbo and lost part of front cylinder exhaust valve. Never did find out which came first.
Could have rebuilt it, but with concerns about the bottom end - son had to drive it 60 km thinking it was only in limp mode rather than stuffed (and no oil at end of the horror run) - we decided to be safe and replace it. I had just done a major refit ($7K) 1000km before with all new hoses, radiator/thermostat, water pump, HD intercooler, Provent, exhaust manifold deweb etc, so was not impressed.

A year and and a 1/2 on and mine has cost me nothing other than servicing costs. Best $8000 I've spent :)

Fixed the three amigoes with advice here for no cost. All the other known faults had been done. May have an XYZ switch coming up, but we'll see.

Got a Skyline too, but its my race car :p

have only been driving Land Rovers for 6 Moths, but loving it and everything that comes with them, the highs, and lows.

Had a v8 D2a for 3 months, then, due to fuel pricing burning a hole in my hip pocket, moved on from the V8 to a 2002 TD5.

The only issues I had with the V8 were:

- Muffler needed replacing, as the centre muffler fell off due to rust.
- replaced the spark plugs and leads due to misfiring.

The TD5 -

- Issue with rear right blinker - fixed thanks to the advise on here
- Changing of various bulbs that seem to blow every other month
and now - the Drivers side front window regulator will need to be replaced soon.
- I know at some stage I will need to have the Head Gasket done.

Both vehicles had complete service histories and I was able to talk to the Mechanics that looked after them prior to purchase.

A year and a 1/2 with my 2001 D2 V8.

Serpantine Belt
Top Radiator Hose
Thermostat
Idle Pulley
Water Pump Gasket
Valley Gasket
Head Gaskets
Manifold Gaskets
Radiator Service
Air Bag to Coil Spring Conversion.
Brass Diff Filler Plugs
Air Mass Meter

Most of this was done out of labor of love, as my dad is a retired Mechanic and brought a suitcase of spares out from the UK. Apart from a small water leak from the Valley Bolts (not tight when Inlet Manifold removed!! The car had been in a LR dealer who had replaced the Valley Gasket a month before I bought it and two bolt had not been done up fully).

Runs like a dream..

year on with mine, nothing but servicing apart from the fun with the original RWC
Just getting some sluggishness up a hill now and shes due for service almost anyway, so hopefully just something benign like fuel filter or sparks etc (so other symptoms and not always sluggish anyway but when she dont want to go, foot flat to floor is still not enough to get her revs up higher and get moving). Will find out next week, but otherwise, love it

Same happened to mine, big loss of power. It was the air mass meter.. MAF.
