    Starter Running but no start

    Td5 2001
I searched starter issues without finding a similar fault.
A couple of months ago I changed the battery for the Cat Pt/No 115-2422 and the flashing M&S lights on 'First start on the day' disappeared. Occasionally they return but I put this down to the XYZ auto select switch needing reconditioning, it's on the list.
I went to start; when out at the weekend, and the starter ran but the engine did not start, it was as if there was no fuel. After trying a couple of more times I turned the key to 'off' waited a minute and then it started normally, which usually seems like it is instantaneous, it has always started well until this one occasion. Is this an expected hiccup or something that needs to go on the list?
    Regards Ollie

It's possibly//probably an immobiliser issue. I've had it happen about three times but couldn't identify a cause. I "solved" by getting out, locking and unlocking with the remote and then it would start immediately.

I haven't had it happen for months. Certainly not since I replaced the starter solenoid, but that is probably just circumstantial.

    cheers

I usually wait for the warning lights to go out before starting and turn off the A/C, but I was rushing around on the day it happened!

    Hello Ollie,

I have had similar problems to what you have listed, in the past, although it hasn't happened for a long time now.

What I found was that the fuel injection loom inside the rocker cover was starting to leak through the plug into the loom outside of the motor. I replaced the internal loom and flushed(with electrical contact cleaner) both of the plugs(M&F)external of the head, on multiple occasions, and it eventually came good.

I hope this can be of assistance.

    Cheers,

    Jason

Just happened to me tonight. The car will normally start on about the first crank rotation. It sounded like it probably did fire once but that was it. No amount of cranking over would start it. Turned ignition off waited no more than about 20 sec, turned back on and waited for the glow plug light to extinguish and she started first click of the starter. Drove home without a hitch. Checked error codes and nothing relevant. The last time I had even the slightest hesitation in starting was after I changed the fuel filter so that time was probably just a little air. This time not sure but turning off and a little wait for it to reset seems the fix.
