damn mechanic ****ing me off;
ok final word (mongrel still hasnt confirmed the fuel pressure with the instructions and diagrams I gave him from you). Worst case scenario, if I bite the bullet and get fuel pump and it wasnt that; will fuel pump keep ok with careful storage until I DO genuinely need it?
The only thing that will wreck a fuel pump in storage is excessive moisture. Keep it dry and it'll last for decades.
If you haven't done it yet, try to clean the fine filter of the fuel pump. Once, when I ran out of fuel, in the last moment the pump sucked all the dust and dirt in the fuel tank and clogged the filter. Disco was running ok afterwards but with much lower power on accelaration. Good luck J

yeh i was getting ready to and you know what the real problem is, aside from definite rooted O2 sensors?
THE GODDAMN SPARK PLUGS! He showed me pictures though I didnt know what I was looking at but nonetheless, when he finally found the shraeder valve the fuel pressure was fine
Yes, as first suggested back on page 1 somewhere which I thought he would obviously have checked early so didnt insult him by suggesting (though I DID write it at the top of the diagrams that were found for me in the earlier info provided)
Of course, I only got the message about it AFTER I purchased the genuine bosch fuel pump from Jag prestige spares on ebay...(Id given up freaking waiting for him to confirm his own initial diagnosis and still have to wait more time while part arrived, and more time to fit a booking in). As it is, I now have a fuel pump for when I do have to get it done, and hopefully the new plugs will fix the gutlessness, but I still have to wait till Monday week to get a booking
If he wasnt the one who has looked after us well, on a variety of cars for the last 8 years Id be long gone. But I think he is having a family issue at the moment so will give the benefit of the doubt for now
But man I am ****ed, it'll be 3 weeks without being able to use my car (am unwilling to drive it like this in case of causing damage)
AND it brought about an early demise on the poxy little battery being stationary all this time (now have a nice big bastard in there instead)
New plugs, new O2 sensors, new leads
= still reading misfire on the diagnostic tool..
Might grab that MAF I was told I didnt need...
Have you checked your engine harness? The wiring to the injector, I have seen the insulation break down at the bend where the wires enter the connector. Also had this on the plug of the Throttle position sensor, had a broken wire there once. Wiring insulation can become brittle with age due to high heat. ( I had that happen to me)Quote:

After all the help, it was the MAF (he had a rangey in and swapped the mafs to confirm)
Though I DID ask him to test that, first up, weeks ago..
It is running like a rocket now (though not sure if I can smell more fumes than I used to whenI pull up to the garage...

Thats good news and indeed. Despite being an advanced waste spark ignition system from the BMW V8 of the day these engines are pretty simple to diagnose usually. From my limited experience for eg poor economy but heaps of grunt is usually 02's and misfire is often coil packs and maybe lead/pkug and sluggishness can typically be Maf. I had a Maf that caused backfire but it had oil on it. Mafs dont last forever...just go look at the BMW forums where the same one is used.
